"Western Swing" by former Fayetteville writer released
If you're looking to stack up books for summer reading, former Fayetteville resident Matt McGowan 's second novel, " Western Swing," is available at Pearl's Books or online.
State of play: McGowan relocated from NWA to Spokane, Washington, last summer. He formerly worked as a science and research writer at the University of Arkansas and was a local newspaper reporter earlier in his career.
His debut novel, " 1971," was published in 2021.
Between the lines:"Western Swing" is a Kerouac -eque — or even Charles Portis-like — road trip where a young man is looking to get away from the family farm in southwest Missouri. He travels west, meets people and things happen.
Set in 1992, it promises to be a relatable tale for most Gen Xers who immediately grasp references to Kurt Cobain and Datsuns.
