Video: The Bugatti Bolide's Track Pace Will Melt Your Mind

The Bugatti Bolide is a track-only hypercar unlike any other. Only 40 will ever exist, and each one costs $4 million. It's the type of car you'd expect to find in a climate-controlled garage waiting for the 2088 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Thankfully, that's not the life of every Bolide out there. A new onboard video from the Nürburgring GP track shows the utterly bonkers performance the Bugatti offers. The Bolide makes the same power as its road-going counterpart, with 1,578 horsepower from its W-16 engine. But it only weighs around 3,200 pounds, as opposed to the 4,300-pound Chiron. The speed at which the Bugatti closes the gap between other cars is wild to watch. The power turns the Porsche 911s and other incredible performance cars on the track into annoying traffic for the Bugatti driver. A McLaren Senna is little more than a blur as the Bugatti passes it. The Bolide has a lower top speed than the Chiron, 236 miles per hour versus 261. Despite the explosive acceleration, it doesn't even get near that on the track. The digital display shows the Bugatti reaching a top speed of 186 mph—still pretty nuts for a road course. Bugatti originally showed off the Bolide prototype in 2020 with a theoretical 1,825 horsepower and a top speed of over 300 mph. It'd be three years before the company revealed the car in production form , with another year of testing before deliveries began. It's great to finally see the car on the track, bringing joy to riders and fear to other drivers. Can a breathtaking convertible concept restore Cadillac to greatness? Time's running out.

Cadillac revealed a jaw-dropping, electrically powered ultra-luxury convertible show car Monday, along with more details about how the automaker hopes to return to the front rank of global luxury brands. Will it work? Only if Cadillac's upcoming production vehicles live up to the stratospheric standard set by the Sollei concept. But Cadillac has shown gorgeous concept cars before. They wowed classic car collectors, the rich and famous at the annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance car show in California, but left fewer ripples than if they'd been rolled from their wildly praised debuts into the nearby Pacific Ocean. Don't believe me? Google Cadillac Ciel, Escala and Elmiraj. Drink in their elegance, beauty and visual impact. Then name a Cadillac you can buy today that belongs in the conversation with them. Cadillac's running out of chances to regain status and relevance. It may already have run out, but the Sollei, in concert with the $350,000+ Celestiq luxury electric car the brand just began building, could buy it one low and elegant, the Sollei is a show stopper, conceived 'to deliver Cadillac bravado,' the way the automaker's classics did, but with a new level of personalization and technology, General Motors design chief Michael Simcoe said as the car debuted in an immaculate midcentury modern building at the automaker's tech center in Warren, Michigan. The convertible's classical proportions — long hood; roomy four-seat interior; compartment for a folding soft top; trunk — are a sharp contrast to the more daring Celestiq, the first of which are now being built by hand at the same tech center. More luxury convertibles: The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Manufaktur Golden Coast is a limited-edition masterpiece The convertible shares its dimensions and technology with the Celestiq, though it bears little resemblance to the four-door hardtop beyond its nose and headlights. Sollei highlights: 'Manila Cream': The pale yellow color was painstakingly created from vehicles in General Motors' Heritage Collection. Beautifully applied and finished by hand, the pale yellow color was matched to vehicles in the collection. The unspoken message: Luxury brands that have only been around a few years can't top decades of heritage. Your move, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura and Genesis. Classic proportions: Long, low and wide, the Sollei uses the same architecture and running gear as the very different looking Celestiq four-door. The 2+2 seating layout mirrors classic luxury convertibles. Power doors: Opening and closing at the touch of a modest aluminum button, the feature makes the Sollei's long doors easy to operate. The long doors allow comfortable entrance and exit easy from the rear seats. They also mirror a feature in the upcoming 2025 Escalade SUV. Metallic fabric cloth power top in color called Daybreak. 55 inches of screens across the dashboard. Front and rear-seat touch screens for climate infotainment controls. Bio-based renewable material: Mats for the rear-seat charging pads and map pockets in doors are made of Mycelium, a new material developed from the root structure of mushrooms. Five woods, separated by strips of aluminum in hand-applied sunburst designs on the doors and seat backs. Sunburst-themed interior lighting, graphics, embroidery and seat quilting. Tufted floor mats match the roof's color. Multiple zones of ambient lighting, each capable of creating 126 colors. Nappa leather-wrapped interior and seats in Manila Cream with a pink iridescent treatment to mimic the changing colors of sunrise. Rear-seat refrigerator with custom crystal decanter and glasses for chilled drinks. Billet aluminum trim, including the windshield surround and interior trim. "Aurora" tint on metal trim to evokes the patterns of the Aurora Borealis as solar winds interact with Earth's atmosphere. There's no plan to build the Sollei, which explains why the concept was exempt from the brand's decree that the names of its EVs end in 'iq:' Lyriq, Celestiq, Optiq and Escalade IQ. Cadillac says the name Sollei is a portmanteau of Sol for the sun and lei from 'leisure' — and should be pronounced 'So-Lay.' Granted, that doesn't scan phonetically, but this is the company that decided Celestiq, the made-up, vaguely French-looking name for its super-luxury flagship should be pronounced 'Celeste-ICK.' You do you, Cadillac. I'm thinking about calling your convertible 'Sully.' Contact Mark Phelan: 313-222-6731 or mmphelan@ Follow him on Twitter mark_phelan. This Tiny British Sports Car Maker Is Opening a Factory in the USA

We've probably all dreamed of owning a classic British sports car at times, but our collective patience for oil leaks often runs thin. But what if you could have all that MG charm without the headaches — or, for that matter, the oil? For the last eight years, RBW Electric Cars has been pioneering a way to make that idea a reality — and now, U.S. buyers are set to have a more direct line to the handmade EVs, because RBW is expanding its manufacturing facilities to Virginia. Owned and operated by Peter Swain and his family, RBW EV is set to open its new Danville, Virginia, factory in September, after an investment of more than $8 million. The decision comes less than a year after Swain revealed a fleet of left-hand-drive, North America-aimed MG-esque machines at the 2024 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. "This facility will enable RBW to scale production while preserving the craftsmanship and quality that define the brand. To support this transition, RBW has already been training U.S. operatives at its UK facility," Swain said. "RBW knew we needed a U.S. location to support U.S. sales growth and were busily considering options." The choice of Virginia wasn't by happenstance. Swain told that the state was a natural choice because of its established manufacturing ecosystem, highly skilled workforce, and strategic location for distribution across the U.S. The effect on the local economy will be small but meaningful, as the factory is expected create up to 144 jobs. A number of local grants will help RBW construct its coming factory, but Swain said that the decision to come Stateside was about more than just increasing production numbers. Instead, the British EV manufacturer said he wants to ingratiate his company with Americans and make good on the potential cost-reduction benefits of U.S. manufacturing. (Indeed, an all-electric, U.K.-built recreational roadster wouldn't be the first choice for many domestic customers.) This is doubly true under the Trump administration, which has claimed it will levy a 25% tariff on any foreign imported cars starting in April. While RBW's electrified sports cars aren't likely to be anyone's only mode of transportation, leisure buyers would likely be put off by a 25% increase on the already expensive models: The Roadster edition starts at $139,000, while the incoming GT model will start at $151,000, meaning a 25% increase would add $34,750 and $37,750, respectively. That's not to say these prices aren't for good reason. Swain says it takes more thabn 500 hours of time to hand-build their EV sports cars, especially considering that RBW builds its battery system from the ground up. OEM-compliant safety features, a modular powertrain with custom power and charging management software, plus specially tuned suspension are all included in the six-figure cost. For your hundreds of thousands of dollars, RBW provides 150 miles of range, a 90-mph top speed, and an 8.0-second sprint from 0-60 mph. Our own test of the RBW models proved to be splendid, reveling a perfect blend of the MG character and modern driving dynamics. As such, we'll be delighted to see more of these roaming around U.S. roads — so long as the current political hostility to foreign automakers, both legacy and startup alike, doesn't scare off bespoke manufacturers like RBW.
