Earlier today, a man from the Middlesbrough area was arrested under the Pedlars Act of 1871 for not having a Pedlars Licence. He will appear in court at a later date and has been removed from the county. A spokesperson from South Lakes Police said: 'Whilst there are a few genuine pedlars operating in the county we always advise our communities to be cautious. A genuine pedlar will produce their licence on request. 'We also encourage communities to be aware that the goods on sale for vastly reduced prices are often substandard, faulty or otherwise problematic and there is very little recourse to obtain a refund!'
