FTSE 100 LIVE: Markets mixed as China accuses US of violating trade deal, promises to respond
The FTSE 100 (^FTSE) edged up while European stocks slipped on Monday as China said the US "severely violated" the terms of their recent trade truce. Chinese officials said they would take strong measures to defend the country's interests. The two countries recently agreed to a 90-day moratorium after talks in Geneva, pledging to lower the tariffs on each other's goods. The US lowered its levy on imports from 145% to 30%, while China dropped its import tariff from 125% to 10%. China said the US had "seriously undermined" the agreement. The comments come after US president Donald Trump said on Friday that China had "totally violated its agreement with us". Beijing said violations included the US blocking sales of computer chip design software to Chinese companies and warning against the use of Chinese computer chips made by companies such as Huawei. They also said the US had cancelled visas for Chinese students. London's premier index was up 0.2% at the opening bell in London. Defence contractor Babcock International (BAB.L) rose the most, as the UK announced plans to build up a fleet of 12 attack submarines. Germany's DAX (^GDAXI) fell slightly, while the CAC 40 (^FCHI) was 0.2% lower. The pan-European STOXX 600 (^STOXX) was down 0.1%. Last week, Europe agreed its own stay of execution in trade negotiations with the US, pushing back the implementation of a 50% import tariff to July while talks continue on a possible deal. Man Utd transfer news LIVE: United ‘eye Fernandes replacement', Cunha deal ANNOUNCED, Garnacho wants Chelsea move
Bruno Fernandes update The Red Devils find themselves in a spot of bother, with no European football to offer players and no big income to go with that, targets such as Liam Delap are going elsewhere. One player they may have to say goodbye to is captain and star player Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder is of interest to Saudi club Al Hilal, who are looking to acquire him from United for around £100 million. However, sources are indicating that Fernandes keeps complicating the deal, as he keeps making changes on his demands to join the club. There is still a chance that another club comes swooping for Bruno, with a side like PSG having the resources to sign United's captain, although right now there is no evidence they hold any interest. Utd have already started to prepare for life after Bruno, as well. Sporting CP's Pedro Goncalves stepped up in the absence of Bruno at Sporting, with Utd potentially looking for him to do the same for them at Old Trafford.

Man Utd identify £70m ex-Premier League star as Bruno Fernandes replacement if captain leaves for Al-Hilal
RUBEN AMORIM will make a £70million swoop for Pedro Goncalves - if Bruno Fernandes heads for Saudi Arabia. But Manchester United 's hopes of landing the Sporting Lisbon prize guy could be scuppered if the Portuguese club sell Viktor Gyokeres first. 2 United skipper Fernandes has until Friday to tell Al-Hilal if he is up for a move to the Middle East, and the Saudis are ready to pay £100m if they get the thumbs up. And if Fernandes does take the plunge on a three-year deal, the cash-strapped Reds could afford Goncalves – also known as Pote - with money to spare. Manager Amorim would still prefer to keep his captain, and insisted he was confident of doing so after United's post-season trip to Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. But he is equally aware that a salary of more than £1m a WEEK is hugely tempting for Fernandes. And the Old Trafford money men know they will hit the jackpot by banking such a fee for a man who turns 31 a month into next season. Goncalves, 26, had two years at Wolves as a teenager, but returned to Portugal without playing a game. Amorim took him to Lisbon from Famalicao six years ago, transforming him into a more attacking midfielder who can also play wide. Goncalves, who hit 23 goals as Sporting ended a 19-year title drought in 2021, missed five months of last season with a ruptured thigh muscle. But he returned in April and scored in the final day victory over Vitoria which clinched the Portuguese championship again. Goncalves is also on Aston Villa's wish list, but United believe his relationship with Amorim puts them in pole position. The biggest stumbling block could arise if Arsenal or Napoli can seal an early deal for £67m-rated striker Gyokeres, as Sporting would be unwilling to cash in on two of their star men. But the Portuguese side will land a £5m-plus jackpot if Fernandes heads to the Middle East, thanks to a clause giving them ten percent of any profit United make on their skipper.

What has Viktor Gyokeres told Sporting team-mates about Arsenal transfer?
Viktor Gyokeres has been fielding questions from his inquisitive Sporting team-mates about where his future lies. The in-demand Swede is the subject of intense interest from a whole host of clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester United. Gyokeres' club-mate Pedro Goncalves revealed that the striker had told the squad he was 'not a fortune teller' when asked about his next destination. The former Coventry striker is almost certain to leave the Portuguese club this summer, with a reported €65million (£55m) price tag on his head. That has piqued the interest of clubs like Arsenal and United, both of whom are in the market for a top striker this summer. Recent reports have suggested that United will make Gyokeres their no1 target for the centre-forward position should they win the Europa League, and qualify for the Champions League in the process. That move would reunite Gyokeres with Ruben Amorim, who managed the Swede at Sporting before making the move to Old Trafford mid-season to replace Erik ten Hag. United's reported priority up front is currently Liam Delap, who has a £30 million relegation release clause that is now active in his Ipswich contract after the Tractor Boys went straight back down to the Championship after just one term in the top-flight. 'I asked him and we all asked him. He says he's not a fortune teller,' Goncalves told Canal 11 ahead of the Portuguese Cup final. 'We still have the Portuguese Cup against Benfica to play. I have a very good relationship with him, but I don't talk about it with him. He says he's not a fortune teller Pedro Goncalves 'What I know is because of Fabrizio Romano… I'm sticking with him. I don't know if he's going to leave.' Gyokeres has taken his career to the next level in his spell on the Iberian Peninsula, scoring 96 goals in 101 games. The striker played a crucial role in Sporting's title win this season, as they edged out Porto by two points to retain their Primeria Liga crown. This term, Gyokeres has hit 39 goals in 33 appearances in the league, while he notched six in eight in the Champions League, where Sporting were knocked out in the knockout play-off by Borussia Dortmund.

Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim left star in tears after telling him he was leaving
Sporting CP midfielder Pedro Goncalves admitted he was left in tears after ex-manager Ruben Amorim announced he would be leaving the club to join Manchester United Pedro Goncalves confessed that Ruben Amorim's mid-season exit from Sporting CP left him in tears as he hailed his father-like approach to managing in Portugal. Amorim joined Manchester United in November as a replacement for the sacked Erik ten Hag. His start at United has been difficult, with the club floundering above the relegation places. And he suffered yet another huge setback on Wednesday night after the 2017 Europa League winners lost this year's final to Tottenham. United headed into the match as favourites, with fans and pundits backing the Red Devils to secure silverware once again. However, a scrappy Brennan Johnson effort on the stroke of half-time subjected the club to yet more disappointment. Amorim heads back to Manchester trophyless and feeling the pressure, while Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, who has also been feeling the heat, returns to north London with silverware for the first time in 17 years. However, one man who backs the Portuguese manager to return to his best is Sporting midfielder Goncalves, who opened up about Amorim's influence on his team before his abrupt exit in 2024. In an interview with Canal 11, the 26-year-old, who has been linked with a reunion with his ex-gaffer at Old Trafford, said: "I wouldn't be here today [without him]. "We had a very strong bond, both professionally and personally. He liked my wife very much and was concerned about my well-being, both on the field and in my family life. He knew when players were happy or sad, and he knew exactly what to say. "We were sad. I started crying because I really liked him, and I was sad. I never told him not to go; I wished him good luck. The players understood. He was like a father to us. We were sad, but we understood. I wish him the best of luck." Reflecting on the effects of Amorim's exit, Goncalves added: "We were left without a coach, without a captain, without the forward, Paulinho, who gave us a lot and scored many decisive goals, plus Adan, who was an experienced goalkeeper. "In the middle of the season, we felt we were missing some leadership. The team united, and it went well. Everyone tried to lead, and Morten started to emerge." Despite Amorim's departure from Sporting, the club still managed to win the Liga Portugal title under heavy pressure from close rivals Benfica. Amorim, meanwhile, has had a disastrous time in Manchester. In addition to the Europa League disappointment, United have exited three cup competitions and dropped to 16th in the Premier League. The 40-year-old has offered to step down from his position as United boss if the fans and Red Devils hierarchy demand it, but he still believes he's the right man to restore the club to its former glory. Amorim said: "If the board and the fans feel I'm not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation. But I will not quit again. I am confident in my job. As you see, I will not change anything in the way I do things. "In this moment, I am not here to defend myself. It's not my style. I have nothing to show to the fans. In this moment [I need] a little bit of faith." Luke Shaw is one man who still backs his under-pressure boss, despite admitting that United have been far from their best this season. He said: "I can say 100 per cent right now he's the right man. Results have not been good at all. I've been here for a long time now and been through different managers. "Ruben, for me, I talk on my behalf and I can talk on behalf of all the players, he is 100 per cent the right manager to take us back to where this club should be. "It's going to be a very difficult process, us as players, we've let a lot of people down, including Ruben. I will say it again, we've been nowhere near good enough the whole season."
