Two women charged with financial fraud
In two unrelated cases, two area women are charged with felonies in relation to financial fraud.
Peggy Riddle, 73, of 226 Charles Riddle Road, north of Sanford, was arrested Feb. 21 for allegedly exploiting the trust of an elderly or disabled person by obtaining $200,000 from Dorothy Hayes with intent to deprive.
The offense allegedly occurred on Dec. 7, 2018, according to eCourts.
Riddle was released on a $200,000 unsecured bond.
Danielle Pickard Cockrum, 49, of 2099 Plainfield Church Road, northeast of Siler City, was charged with obtaining property by false pretense.
The offense allegedly occurred Jan. 11, 2023. Cockrum was arrested June 6, 2023 and released on a promise to appear in court.
She was indicted May 13, 2024 for allegedly opening an account with Dogwood State Bank and transferring $26,849 knowing that she did not have the funds.
A Dogwood State Bank is located at 2222 Jefferson Davis Highway in Tramway.
Both women have administrative hearings set for June 30 in Lee County Superior Court.
