Fazlur Rehman warns of protests over underage marriage ban bill
JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman condemned the proposed bill seeking to ban underage marriages, warning that failure to withdraw it could force his party to take to the streets, Express News reported. Speaking in the National Assembly on Monday, Rehman criticised the timing of the bill, arguing that the country needs unity and solidarity, not controversy. 'This is a time to promote national cohesion, yet the government is pushing forward a divisive bill,' he said. Referring to the bill that prohibits marriage for individuals under the age of 18, he questioned the necessity of introducing such legislation at this critical moment. 'If I oppose the bill, people will question my stance, but I must raise my voice,' he stated. He urged the Speaker of the National Assembly to issue a ruling against the bill and cautioned the government not to compel his party to protest on the streets. 'It would be better to halt this legislation and refer it to the Council of Islamic Ideology. If they find no objection, I too will have none,' he added. He denounced India's swift blame on Pakistan following the Pehalgam incident in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir without conducting any investigation. 'India launched missiles targeting our civilian and religious sites, claiming they were attacking terrorist hideouts. They blamed us for their own security failures,' he said. He praised Pakistan's armed forces for their prompt and effective response, stating, 'If our military establishment admits it cannot fight without national support, we must ensure unity. India initiated aggression, but our military's response will be remembered in history.' The JUI-F chief also paid tribute to Pakistan's forces, highlighting the need to maintain unity even after a ceasefire. 'India's Parliament is mocking its own leadership. Modi stands isolated, without public support. To save face, he may resort to such tactics again,' he warned. 'Our economic partnership with China has now entered the defence sphere. We must trust our ally.' He further stated that European and Israeli technologies failed in recent encounters, whereas Chinese and Asian technologies succeeded. 'The world witnessed how our pilots effectively utilized modern technology,' he claimed. He further stressed the importance of keeping the Afghan border peaceful. He referred to the drone strike in Waziristan, which was also discussed in Parliament, and mentioned his party's million marches in Peshawar and Quetta. 'We organized rallies to break the climate of fear and demonstrate national unity. We showed the world that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are very much alive,' he concluded.

Here's how PBKS, DC players left Dharamsala amid airport shutdown
After the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamsala was abandoned today, the question of how both teams will leave for their next match has taken centre stage. Earlier, PBKS was scheduled to face Mumbai Indians in Dharamsala on Sunday, but the match was shifted to Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium due to rising concerns related to India-Pakistan cross-border tension. Why are PBKS and DC facing travel issues? After India's attack on Pakistan's terror bases in retaliation for the Pehalgam terror attack, the airports of all cities close to the Indo-Pak border were closed for safety reasons. By the time the airports were shut down, PBKS and DC had already landed in Dharamsala, and their exit route was blocked. Player safety takes centre stage More than keeping teams in check with their IPL 2025 schedule, the BCCI wants to get them out of Dharamsala due to safety concerns. Even on Thursday, the match between PBKS and DC was initially reported to be abandoned due to a technical issue, but it was later reported by PTI that it was cancelled after air raid alerts were issued in nearby cities of Jammu and Pathankot. According to The Times of India, the BCCI is now planning to evacuate players, support staff, and broadcast crew with the help of a special train. Initially, it was reported that all the airports near Dharamsala had been closed down due to security reasons. However, no official statement from the BCCI has been issued on this matter. Both train and bus routes available While the airports are closed, Dharamsala possesses excellent train and bus connectivity due to being one of the most popular travel destinations in the country. The BCCI can use either of the two modes to get the players out. However, which one they will use will be revealed in due time.

No Beating Retreat ceremony at Attari border as India-Pak tensions rise
The glittering Beating Retreat ceremony, held traditionally at the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar between India and Pakistan, was suspended on Wednesday amid rising tensions between the two countries. Tensions further flared between the two neighbouring countries after Indian forces carried out precision airstrikes under Operation Sindoor against terror launchpads in Pakistan and POK, in retaliation to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians on April 22. After the Beating Retreat ceremony was suspended, several Indian tourists who had come to the Attari border to witness the spectacle were left disappointed and were asked to leave. However, they were still in high spirits and supported the government's move of a major military retaliation against Pakistan and its terror factories. "We appreciate the action taken by the Indian troops and PM Modi. It was great action. Pehalgam ka Badla le liya (Pahalgam is avenged)," tourists visiting Amritsar from Gujarat and Maharashtra said in unison. Notably, the Beating Retreat ceremony is the only coordinated parade between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Pakistan Rangers, with people from both sides thronging the site to witness the show. Days after the Pahalgam attack, the BSF chose to make its anger known by neither opening the gates of the Attari border nor having a customary handshake with the Pakistani Rangers during the ceremony. The parade commander of the Indian contingent also did not walk forward to shake hands with his Pakistani counterpart during the ceremony, which was attended by scores of people on both sides. Several Indians, including Army veterans, geostrategic experts and politicians, also called for the ceremony to be stopped altogether. The Attari-Wagah was closed as part of India's five specific retaliatory measures against Pakistan taken at the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) a day after the attack. India and Pakistan's paramilitary forces, the BSF and the Pakistan Rangers, respectively, have engaged in the ceremony since 1959.
