Fire kills 19 goats, damages vehicles parked near shed in Penang

BAYAN LEPAS: Nineteen goats were killed when a fire broke out at a shed on Lengkok Kampung Jawa this afternoon. Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations, John Sagun Francis, said the fire not only claimed the lives of the animals but also damaged several vehicles parked nearby. He said a team was dispatched to the scene after the department was alerted to the incident at 12.58pm. "The fire resulted in about 90 per cent destruction of the shed, which housed goats. "There were 20 goats in the shed, but only one survived the blaze," he said in a statement. He added that no human casualties were reported in the incident. "Several vehicles parked at the location were also damaged. "These included a Honda City, which suffered 30 per cent damage; a Honda Civic, which was 80 per cent damaged and destroyed; a Proton Wira with 30 per cent damage; and a one-tonne lorry, which was nearly completely destroyed with 90 per cent damage." He added that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

GEORGE TOWN: Firefighters successfully brought two hikers to safety from Taman Rimba Teluk Bahang here tonight, after a 34-year-old woman experienced dehydration and lethargy. Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations, John Sagun Francis, said they received a distress call at about 6.40pm. "The female hiker was with a 40-year-old male friend when she began experiencing dehydration and fatigue. "They then called for help and sent their location via WhatsApp, which enabled us to pinpoint their position and plan the rescue operation," he said in a statement. He said firefighters located the two hikers and safely escorted them down the trail. The operation concluded at 10.51pm. He added that the case had been handed over to the police for further action.

In a Threads post, @penangkini_ reported that Teh Seng Keat, 70, who had been missing since around 5.30pm on May 29 was discovered in Bukit Titi Serong, Balik Pulau. It is believed that the man lost control of his Perodua Myvi, which plunged down a 30-meter slope. In a video shared by the page, the man appeared exhausted and injured, having been trapped between rocks near his vehicle. He was later rescued using a stretcher with the help of members of the public and personnel from the Penang Fire and Rescue Department, before being sent to hospital for further treatment. According to the state department's director, Mohamad Shoki Hamzah, they received an emergency call from the public at 4.08pm yesterday regarding the incident. Previously, the elderly man's daughter shared in a Facebook post that her father had been missing after leaving a relative's home in Batu Lanchang.

BALIK PULAU, May 30 (Bernama) -- An elderly man reported missing since yesterday was found injured on a hill slope in the Bukit Titi Serong area here today. The victim, Teh Seng Keat, 78, who was driving a Perodua Myvi, is believed to have lost control of the car before plunging down the slope. Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Mohamad Shoki Hamzah said the department received an emergency call from the public at 4.08 pm today, informing them that a car had skidded off the road in the area.
