Hospital roadworks set to cause 'significant disruption'

Patients and drivers have been warned that roadworks near a hospital in north Wales are set to cause significant disruption. The work, expected to last 10 weeks, will take place between Ysbyty Gwynedd roundabout and Ffordd Cae Cilmelyn in Bangor. It is part of the Penrhos Road Active Travel Scheme which will feature a new cycle and pedestrian track. A Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board statement said: "We wish to advise all patients and visitors to prepare for potential delays due to roadworks set to begin near Ysbyty Gwynedd on Tuesday, 22 April. The works, taking place between Ysbyty Gwynedd roundabout and Ffordd Cae Cilmelyn, are expected to cause significant disruption to traffic flow in the area with increased congestion. "To help avoid delays and ensure appointments are not missed, all patients and visitors are strongly encouraged to allow extra travel time when coming to the hospital." "These works are likely to cause delays, and we want to ensure everyone arrives on time for their appointments. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this period.' The BCUHB statement said: "The roadworks are in place to deliver part of the Penrhos Road Active Travel Scheme, a project to enhance walking and cycling provision in the area, on behalf of Cyngor Gwynedd. "Traffic management is due to be in operation 24 hours a day from Monday to Friday. Temporary traffic lights will be used to control traffic flow, which will be manually operated between 7.30am and 8pm. "We do not envisage any weekend working during this project. However, if required the traffic management will be manually operated as per weekdays timings. The work is expected to continue for approximately 10 weeks."
