More off-leash dog areas to open in Vancouver
Vancouver park board has opened a fenced-in, off-leash dog area in Heather Park, is expected to open another later this summer at Granville Park, and is expanding the off-leash area at Emery Barnes Park.
Park board Chair Laura Christensen said all three projects were approved by board in June 2023.
The Heather Park off-leash area at West 18th and Heather is around the same size as an ice hockey rink.
'The 1,200-square-metre OLA offers a large open space for dogs to explore, as well as a series of agility features, including a ramp, stepping-stones and hurdles,' Christensen said. 'Additional seating will offer a place for owners to relax while their pups let off steam, and two- and four-legged visitors will also have access to a new drinking fountain and dog bowl.
'The opening of our new off leash area marks another exciting milestone in our commitment to growing dog-friendly spaces across Vancouver.'
Later this summer, work is expected to be completed on a new off-leash area at Granville Park in Fairview and on an upgraded area at Downtown's Emery Barnes Park.
Construction is also underway on a new off-leash area at Oakridge Centre.
The park board adopted the People, Parks, and Dogs Strategy in 2017.
