Peoria County Sheriff warns of scammers asking for $3K to power wash driveway
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The Peoria County Sheriff Office is warning people of a new scam which makes customers pay $3,000 to wash their driveway.
The sheriff's department was made aware of the scam last week in Princeville and Limestone Township. Solicitors were going door to door, telling people that it would cost $175 to power wash their driveway, the department said in a Facebook post.
When the solicitors would finish cleaning the driveway, they would inform the homeowners that the job actually cost $3,000, and it appears they were targeting 'elderly customers,' the post said.
'Always be cautious when dealing with solicitors and make sure to let our elderly community know about this scam,' the post said.
The incidents are currently under investigation, the post said.
