Icee Callangan is staying in the NCAA, but has found a new home as the rising point guard committed to Mapua University to begin his college stint starting in Season 101 later this year.
Callangan was part of the history-making Perpetual Junior ALTAs squad that ruled the previous NCAA Season 100 juniors basketball tournament against La Salle Green Hills in an epic best-of-three finals series.
The 20-year-old court general played a huge role in that title run, posting averages of 7.23 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.23 assists, and 1.08 steals to help Perpetual clinch its first-ever basketball title in any rank.
As he closed out his high school run as a champion, Callangan now opens his college chapter with another champion, the Mapua Cardinals.
Callangan will join seniors Clint Escamis and Cyrus Cuenco and other holdovers in Yam Concepcion, JC Recto, and Andrei Igliane as well as transferees Cyrus Nitura and Cyril Gonzales.
Callangan's arrival could fill the hole left by the departure of Lawrence Mangubat and Chris Hubilla, who both left Mapua to bring their act to Jose Rizal University after just one season.
Callangan was the latest Perpetual Junior ALTAs to leave after Lebron Jhames Daep, who joined De La Salle University in the UAAP. Their other teammates in Jan Roluna, JD Pagulayan, Jericho Cristino, Kelsey Baldoria, and Aries Borja have all stayed home in Perpetual for college.
