BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei has launched a new initiative called a fact-checking platform allowing the public to verify information and news circulated on social media, a government minister has announced.
Currently accessible via Instagram, The will be expanded into a dedicated website by early 2026, providing a comprehensive resource to combat misinformation and fake news, said Datuk Seri Setia Shamhary Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, at the Digital Future Conference and Exhibition (DFCE) 2025 near the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Shamhary also revealed that the Digital Economy Council has been renamed the Digital Brunei Council, accompanied by a strategic restructuring of its membership. This rebranding aims to better reflect the diverse stakeholders' critical roles in the nation's digital transformation.
Additionally, the minister highlighted Brunei's recent enactment of the Personal Data Protection Order, which seeks to enhance public confidence by promoting organisational accountability and ensuring transparent handling of personal data.
