Cat cafe owner offering camps for children
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — Lauri Meins, owner of The Cat's Meow Cafe, is finding a creative way to teach kids about cats with two different camps.
This is the second summer for Kid and Kitties Camp for kids ages six to 11. Children will learn about the rescue process, cat care and what to do if they see a cat. Older kids 12 and up can sign-up for Future Cat Cafe Owners of America.
Meins said she came up with the idea after thinking about what she would have wanted when she was a child.
'And I think it's such a good introduction for kids and cats so they can have one-on-one time, learn proper handling procedures and kind of the rules of the cafe,' she said. 'I hope this year that everyone just has fun, just like always. And in the future, the more camps we run, the more kids get exposed to cats and the more safe cat care there is out there.'
The coffee shop houses 20 adoptable cats through a partnership with Pet Central Helps! Since opening in 2023, there has been 379 cat adoptions.
