Two teenage boys in court charged with attempted rape of girl in Co Antrim

Two 14-year-old boys have appeared in court charged with the attempted rape of a girl in Co Antrim. During a hearing on Monday, police said they believed there was a potential third suspect. Coleraine Magistrates' Court was told the teenagers had denied the alleged offence during an interview with police. The appeared via videolink from a juvenile justice centre and cannot be identified due to their age. The charges were read to the Romanian teenagers via an were charged by detectives who are investigating a serious sexual assault on a teenage girl in Ballymena. The alleged incident took place in the Clonavon Terrace area on Saturday evening. A PSNI detective constable told the court she could connect the two boys to the offences. The court heard that both are accused of attempting to orally rape a if they understood the charges, the boys replied 'yes'. Solicitor Niall O'Neill said there was no application for bail at this moment. He said both his clients are 14, and with no record in the jurisdiction and both denied the matter in interview with police. He said there is no suitable bail address for them to reside at this stage. The detective constable told the court there is one potential outstanding suspect in the case who had not been identified yet, who is believed to be around the same age as the two defendants. Westpac chief executive Anthony Miller is pursuing a more ambitious growth agenda than predecessor Peter King, boosting lending to small business and pushing his bankers to sell more products to existing customers to fend off major competitors. The re-election of the Albanese government with an increased majority over the weekend was positive for business confidence, Miller said as he handed down his first financial result as CEO.
