Fort Bliss to remember, honor those who gave all

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Fort Bliss will remember servicemembers who paid the ultimate sacrifice during its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 26. The ceremony will be at 9 a.m. May 26 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave. The ceremony will be held at the Rostrum area. The event will include speeches to remember servicemembers who died in combat or while serving their country and a wreath-laying ceremony. Lt. Col. Peter Lawall, the deputy commander for the 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, will be the keynote speaker. Music will be provided by the 1st Armored Division Band. The ceremony will also feature a cannon salute and color guard. Designated areas for parking and handicap parking will be available through the second gate (pass the main gate to the left), also known as the maintenance gate. Parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged. Four VA buses and additional golf carts will be available to shuttle veterans and visitors to designated areas within the cemetery. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Bottled water will be provided. 'Memorial Day is a day of remembrance to honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. It is a time to reflect on the sacrifices of our fallen heroes and to pay tribute to their legacy of courage, dedication, and selflessness,' Fort Bliss National Cemetery said in its news release.
