WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A Winston-Salem officer was taken to the hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on Friday, according to a Winston-Salem Police Department news release.
Around 7:20 p.m., a Winston-Salem officer was on the way to an emergency call for service with his blue/red lights and siren activated when his patrol car was hit as he drove through the intersection of Peters Creek Parkway at Silas Creek Parkway.
The officer was driving a marked Dodge Charger police vehicle and going north on Peters Creek Parkway. He slowed down to clear the intersection before going through it with his lights and siren activated.
While he was going through the intersection, the officer's vehicle was hit by a 2025 Rivian R1S that was going west on Silas Creek Parkway.
The Rivian kept going west before crashing into a 1997 Honda Civic and a 2016 Acura RLX that were stopped in the northbound lanes of Peters Creek Parkway at a red light.
The officer and another person were treated at hospitals for minor injuries.
The driver of the Rivian, Patrick Yingling, 50, was issued a citation for failing to heed emergency vehicles and for expired registration.
