Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Kasim Muda said the police will begin issuing summonses instead of just dispersing the public, following repeated instances of traffic obstruction at these locations. 'For the past two to three weeks, we've been advising and asking people to move along. But from now on, we will take firm action,' he said. The Aeropod flyover has become a popular stop for motorists, many of whom park their vehicles along the emergency lane just to enjoy the view, which overlooks the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA). However, such stops have created safety concerns. Kasim reminded that parking in such areas is a traffic offence and causes unnecessary congestion. 'This kind of behaviour is dangerous and not allowed. They cannot just stop and park their vehicles there,' he said.

A motorcyclist died in the crash, which happened around 10.25pm on May 3. Kasim said similar issues were happening at Tanjung Aru, where people stop by the roadside or even at roundabouts to watch the sunset. 'Many of them don't use the designated parking spaces. We urge them to park properly in lots provided by City Hall or the beach management,' he said. Traffic police will be deployed on weekends and public holidays to monitor both areas and issue summonses. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
