'Egypt Gas' has important, clear role in implementing axes of ministry: Petroleum min.

CAIRO, April 5 (MENA) – Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Wealth Karim Badawy asserted that 'Egypt Gas' company has a clear and important role in implementing the six axes of the work strategy of the Ministry of Petroleum currently. The company provides the needs of citizens for petroleum products at the least cost via increasing production, intensifying excavation programs and benefiting from the infrastructure and energies in the sector of refining, petrochemicals, gas lines networks, crude oil and products, Badawy said. The company contributes to making a quantum leap in the sector of mineral wealth to increase contribution to local product in addition to restructuring energy mix in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy which seeks to increase the percentage of renewable energy in the mix of Egyptian energy to reach 42 percent by 2030, Badawy said. This came during Badawy's participation in the activities of the general assembly of 'Egypt Gas' to discuss and approve the outcome of the fiscal year 2024. 'Egypt Gas' has an important role in the axis of safety, vocational health, environment, sustainability and rationalizing energy due to its positive role in attracting investments via providing safe environment to maintain the safety of the workers, he said. Badawy pointed out to the distinguished outcome achieved by the company whether in 2024 or in the previous years. For his part, Chairman of Egypt Gas Wael Gowayed highlighted the activities of the company in 2024 coinciding with the passage of 42 years on its establishment in 1983. Gowayed presented a documentary on the activities of the company where he shed light on the role of the company in the project of delivering natural gas to houses as well as commercial and industrial facilities. Egypt Targets 42% Renewable Energy Share With Major Investments

Egypt is expanding solar, wind and hydrogen projects to maximise energy resources and strengthen its role in the global market. Mar 21, 2025 Egypt has finalised its strategy to increase the share of renewable energy to 42% by 2030, as announced by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Wealth, Engineer Karim Badawy, during the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2025. The strategy focuses on developing solar and wind energy projects in the Gulf of Suez, including a 500 MW wind power plant built in partnership between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and Siemens Gamesa. In addition to expanding wind and solar power, Egypt is aiming to position itself as a key player in the global hydrogen market, with plans to attract investments and launch hydrogen generation and production projects. The Egyptian government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, is developing a strategy to optimise energy resources and reinforce the country's transition to clean energy.
