University Pedagogical Days in Fez Addresses Role of Values in Moroccan Higher Education
Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah's Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry just concluded the the 18th edition of its University Pedagogical Days, held under the theme 'The Moroccan University and the Question of Values: Present Challenges and Future Prospects', from May 23-24 in Fez.
This annual academic event was co-organized by the National Forum for Higher Education and Scientific Research, in partnership with the university, and brought together a distinguished assembly of academics, researchers, and higher education professionals from various Moroccan universities and disciplines.
Over the course of two days, nearly 30 participants engaged in a series of scholarly lectures and panel discussions exploring the multifaceted dimensions of values education within Moroccan higher education institutions, outlining local and global challenges and issues facing and threatening human and moral values in general and educational and academic values in particular.
The event provided a critical platform for addressing both the theoretical and practical challenges associated with nurturing and sustaining values in university environments, particularly in the context of evolving technological, social, and pedagogical landscapes.
The diverse presentations addressed a wide range of themes, highlighting the urgent need for rethinking institutional approaches to moral and civic education, especially in light of the rapid digital transformation affecting University life locally and globally.
Scholars emphasized the necessity of abiding by moral principles and values in their teaching, research, and supervision, reinforcing ethical practices in academic settings, and enhancing interpersonal communication to foster mutual respect and intellectual integrity among university students, academics, and leaders.
The University Pedagogical Days reaffirmed the pivotal historical role of Moroccan universities not only as centers of knowledge production but also as key agents in shaping ethical, responsible, and socially engaged citizens. Organizers and participants alike appreciated the choice of the theme of this gathering and emphasized the ongoing importance preserving and shaping values education.
Following this academic gathering, a National Charter of University Ethics and Values is being drafted and will be issued soon. Tags: academiaglobal educationHigher Educationmoroccan university
