Bristol, Virginia Fire Dept. receives ultrasound device to use in field
BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — The Bristol, Virginia Fire Department (BVFD) paramedics will now be able to conduct ultrasound assessments in the field with the department's new innovative device: the Phillips Lumify.
The BVFD described the Phillips Lumify as a state-of-the-art ultrasound device designed primarily to detect internal bleeding in the field and enable quicker decision-making during traumatic situations. The ultrasound image is projected onto a tablet inside the ambulance.

The addition of the Phillips Lumify supports the BVFD's commitment to enhancing public safety and care, a news release from the department stated.
'The incorporation of the Phillips Lumify into our EMS operations signifies our ongoing dedication to excellence in emergency medical services,' said Lt. Josh Wilkinson. 'We are eager to witness the positive effects this technology will bring to patient care in our community.'
The BVFD's Operational Medical Director, K.D. Hinshaw provided the department with ultrasound training.
