Times Leader Career Expo offers job seekers 'a sense of hope' in job market

Apr. 8—WILKES-BARRE TWP. — Fred Pierantoni, senior recruiter for Geisinger, on Tuesday said the Times Leader Career Expo offers job seekers a sense of hope in the job market. Pierantoni said he and several other Geisinger recruiters were pleased with the amount of traffic at the expo. "It's been a really good turnout so far," Pierantoni said. "The benefit of events like this removes some of the barriers of job-seeking. For instance, we get to meet applicants face-to-face and, if they have a resume, we can make sure they are forwarded to appropriate departments for review." Pierantoni said Geisinger was hoping to identify potential employees of all levels of education for clinical and non-clinical positions. Krista Quintrell, a digital support professional at Community Options, which provides housing and employment opportunities for people with disabilities, said several people had stopped by her table to inquire about positions. "This is a great way to identify prospective employees, " Quintrell said of the career expo. Martin Bibla, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper, First Class, said he had several interested people stop at his table to discuss a potential career with the state police. "We see retirements happening almost every quarter," Bibla said. "We always have openings so we have to do all we can to keep pace and this is a good event to help us identify candidates." Diane McGee, Times Leader Media Group advertising director, said the Times Leader has been a leader in hosting job fairs for Northeastern Pennsylvania. This year's expo started at 10 a.m. and wrapped up at 2 p.m. at the Mohegan Arena concourse. "Job seekers were ready to visit and the turnout was great" McGee said. "We can see job seekers are excited and ready to see what opportunities are available. Our recruiters are excited to engage with prospective job candidates."
