‘A Minecraft Movie' Studio Urges Wild Behavior At ‘Block Party' Screenings
A scene with the Piglins in "A Minecraft Movie." Not long after 'Chicken Jockey' screenings were held for A Minecraft Movie, Warner Bros. is encouraging rowdy behavior at an upcoming 'Block Party Edition' of the film. A Minecraft Movie, of course, is based on Mojang Studios' blockbuster video game Minecraft. Starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, A Minecraft Movie earned $22.7 million in its fourth weekend frame Friday through Sunday to boost its domestic tally to $379.9 million. Along with the film's international ticket sales of $436 million, A Minecraft Movie has grossed $815.9 million to date against a $150 million budget, per The Numbers. While A Minecraft Movie has been very good to theater owners in terms of business since the film's April 4 release, there have also been reports of fans wreaking havoc at showings of A Minecraft Movie. Now, in an apparent movie to capitalize on the over-enthusiastic response to the film, Warner Bros. announced on Monday that a special 'Block Party Edition' of the movie will be held in select theaters and some international markets, aptly named for the film's block-shaped characters. 'Fans across North America and in select international markets can embrace the film anew by singing — or meme-ing — along with their favorite moments from the movie,' Warner Bros. announced in a press release. 'A Minecraft Movie: Block Party Edition! is made for those who yearn for the mines, so get ready to (re)enter the Overworld this weekend! Also in its announcement about how fans can 'experience A Minecraft Movie together in a whole new way,' the Warner Bros. press release added, 'You know the moments. You know the lines. You love the songs! Now it's time to get loose, laugh out loud and belt out those lyrics like a true diamond-tier fan.' Friday, coincidentally, kicks off summer movie season with the release of Disney and Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts*, the announcement of A Minecraft Movie: Block Party Edition! suddenly creates more competition for the latest chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "Chicken Jockey" scene from "A Minecraft Movie." Before Warner Bros. announced its A Minecraft Movie: Block Party Edition! screenings, Regal Cinemas beat the studio to the punch with its special Easter Sunday 'Chicken Jockey' screenings. In an X post announcing the screenings, Regal Cinemas said, 'Level up your experience of A Minecraft Movie with our Chicken Jockey screening exclusively in 4DX. Dress up as your favorite Minecraft characters, whoop, yelp, clap and shout CHICKEN JOCKEY.' Prior to Regal Cinemas' 'Chicken Jockey' screenings, at least one fan of A Minecraft Movie was caught on camera taking his love of scene to next level by hoisting a live chicken in air during the scene. Directed by Jared Hess and also starring Emma Myers, Sebastian Hansen and Danielle Brooks, A Minecraft Movie is playing in theaters nationwide.

‘A Minecraft Movie': Theater Chain Announces ‘Chicken Jockey' Screenings
A major theater chain has found a creative solution to handling the "Chicken Jockey" scene in A Minecraft Movie. Reports from theaters across the country after A Minecraft Movie opened on April 4 noted that a TikTok video craze was wreaking havoc in some theaters during a particular scene in A Minecraft Movie — the big screen adaptation of the blockbuster Mojang Studios Minecraft video game. The movie is set largely in the Overworld, where Steve (Jack Black) discovers he can build anything he imagines out of blocks in the fantastical environment, which is inhabited by block-shaped creatures. After discovering the same portal that enabled Steve to enter the Overworld, a group of misfits — Garrett (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers) and Dawn (Danielle Brooks) — enter the environs and attempt to rescue Steve from the nefarious Piglins. However, it's a scene that involves a couple of other block-shaped creatures — a zombie and a chicken — that has audiences going wild. Dubbed the 'Chicken Jockey' scene, the segment, as evidenced in a video posted on X, shows theatergoers standing up, screaming and throwing popcorn and concessions everywhere. To top it all off, a patron is caught on camera hoisting a live chicken in the air. In an apparent effort not to stop but contain the boisterous actions of moviegoers during showings of A Minecraft Movie, Regal Cinemas has set a date for a special 'Chicken Jockey' 4DX screening at some of its locations. The theater chain announced on social media that the special screenings will take place on Sunday, April 20. 'Level up your experience of A Minecraft Movie with our Chicken Jockey Screening exclusively in 4DX. Dress up as your favorite Minecraft characters, whoop, yelp, clap and shout,' Regal noted in the X post below. Despite competition from five new films in wide release, A Minecraft Movie held on to the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office with $80 million in ticket sales. With the massive second weekend haul, A Minecraft Movie has earned nearly $278.8 million from North American theaters and nearly $269.2 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $548 million to date. A Minecraft Movie had a $150 million production budget before prints and advertising costs, The Numbers reported. As for the upcoming Chicken Jockey screenings of A Minecraft Movie this Sunday, there's no word whether real chickens will be allowed in theaters — but surely some moviegoers will be dressed like one.

Yes, Jack Black And Jason Momoa Have ‘A Minecraft Movie' Action Figures
A blockbuster like A Minecraft Movie isn't complete until it has action figures of Jack Black's Steve and Jason Momoa's Garrett. As the Star Wars franchise, Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Universe have shown, action figures can be an effective marketing tool for a film. Before too long, the MCU will have 6-inch plastic action figures of Florence Pugh's Yelena Bolova and David Harbor's Red Guardian hitting the shelves to help raise awareness of the Marvel antihero movie Thunderbolts* from Hasbro's Marvel Legends line — and fans can certainly expect the same from director James Gunn's Superman reboot with figures of David Corenswet's Man of Steel. The marketability of such a monolithic property as Minecraft certainly isn't lost on Mattel, as the toy company has been making toys based on the world's biggest video game for years. And while Mattel has produced figures of Steve in block form before — along with Piglins, Skeletons and a variety of other characters and environments in the Minecraft Universe, the toy company is stepping up to produce action figures of the characters who appear in human form in A Minecraft Movie. As such, Mattel has made available among its selection of A Minecraft Movie products 4-inch scale action figures of Black and Momoa's Steve and Garrett, as well as Sebastian Hansen's Henry. Steve is currently available as a single-carded figure and a combination pack with his dog, Dennis, while Garrett and Henry are only available in playset with wing accessories to aid in their escape from the Piglins. The set also includes a Piglin Warrior. Steve's accessories include a backpack, a leg of Overworld-style chicken and naturally, a sword. Other single-carded figures include block figures of Steve's dog Dennis, a skeleton warrior and a creeper. Mattel has produced several other action figures and playsets in 4-inch scale in combination packs as well. The action figures and playsets are widely available at brick-and-mortar and online retailers. While A Minecraft Movie was projected by industry trade publications to open with as low as $65 million or as high as $100 million in domestic ticket sales in the film's first Friday to Sunday frame, audiences proved that there was a much bigger appetite for the big-screen adaptation of Mojang Studios' 2011 smash hit video game Minecraft. While final estimates pegged A Minecraft Movie's take at $157 million, the number grew to $163 million by the time final numbers were released Monday. Along with the film's international take over the weekend, A Minecraft Movie's opening weekend take was $313.7 million against a $150 million production budget before prints and advertising costs. A Minecraft Movie is playing in 4,263 North American theaters, a count that could potentially rise when the film enters its second-weekend frame on Friday. In addition to Jack Black, Jason Momoa and Sebastian Hansen, A Minecraft Movie stars Emmy Meyers, Danielle Brooks and Jennifer Coolidge, as well as the voices of Jemaine Clement, Rachel House and Matt Berry. Rated PG, A Minecraft Movie is directed by Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker Jared Hess.

‘A Minecraft Movie' Eyes $130 Million Opening Weekend Box Office
Scene from "A Minecraft Movie." A Minecraft Movie — Jack Black and Jason Momoa's movie adaptation of the blockbuster Minecraft video game — is unearthing a vast amount of treasure in its opening weekend at the box office. Black stars as the video game's main character Steve and Momoa plays Garrett, a down-and-out 1980s video game champ stuck in the past. Garrett and his fellow misfits (Sebastian Hansen, Emma Myers and Danielle Brooks) are pulled through a mystical portal into the Overworld, a block-filled environment where people can build anything they imagine. Steve's being held by the nefarious ruler of a block-shaped band of creatures called the Piglins, though, and he needs Garrett and his friends to help thwart their plans. After earning $55 million Friday — including $10.5 million in Thursday previews — A Minecraft Movie is projected by Deadline to earn $130 million-plus in its first weekend from 4,265 North American theaters. The film is far out-performing box office projections from earlier in the week, which were ranged from $65 million to $100 million domestically. A Minecraft Movie had a $150 million production budget before prints and advertising costs, Deadline noted. An adaptation of Mojang Studios' 2011 smash hit video game Minecraft, A Minecraft Movie is directed by Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker Jared Hess and also stars Jennifer Coolidge and the voices of Jemaine Clement, Rachel House and Matt Berry. With A Minecraft Movie's projected take of $130 million or more this weekend in theaters, the film appears to be grabbing the majority of the people buying tickets as the rest of the movies in the top five all are estimated to earn in the single digits. Following the release of The Chosen: Last Supper – Part 1 last weekend, Fathom Events is distributing The Chosen: Last Supper – Part 2, which Deadline projects will earn $7.2 million from 2,313 theaters through Sunday for a No. 2 finish. Last weekend's No. 1 film — Amazon/MGM Studios' action thriller A Working Man — is projected by Deadline to earn $6.8 million from 3,262 North American theaters for a No. 3 finish to bring its domestic take to $27.3 million. At No. 4 is Disney's Snow White, which is projected to bring in $5.7 million from 3,750 theaters to up its domestic tally to $77 million, Deadline reported. Universal Pictures' horror thriller The Woman in the Yard is projected to earn $3.7 million through Sunday from 2,845 venues to bring its domestic take to $15.8 million, the trade publication noted. Note: This box office report will be updated through the weekend with new numbers as they become available. The final numbers will be released on Monday.
