Pahang ruler hails firefighters' dedication
KUANTAN: Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah expressed his gratitude to members of the Fire and Rescue Department for carrying out their duties diligently, regardless of time and situation.
The ruler conveyed his pride and appreciation for the firefighters' unwavering service and dedication. "Without the members of the Fire and Rescue Department, the challenges we face during the monsoon season, dry spells and other emergencies would be far more difficult to overcome.
"The Fire and Rescue Department has a long and proud history. The fire service was established in 1883, making it about 142 years old in Malaysia.
"Since its upgrade to a full-fledged rescue department in 1976, it has served for 49 years and is held in high regard in the Asean region and also internationally," he said in his speech when officiating at the national-level World Firefighters Day celebration at the Kuantan Municipal Council Field 1 here today.
The theme of this year's celebration is "Bomba Tonggak Penyelamatan Negara" (Fire Department Pillar of National Safety").
Meanwhile, large crowds lined up the streets to watch parachute jumps by smoke jumpers from the Fire and Rescue Department and firefighter skills demonstrations.
Present were Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah, Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, his deputy Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu and Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad.
