Man dead after slipping into water at Pinawa Dam
A Winnipeg man is dead after he fell into the water at the Pinawa Dam on the weekend. Police received a report about a possible drowning around 8 p.m. on Sunday, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday. A 20-year-old man from Winnipeg was at the top of the small waterfall at the dam when he slipped on some wet rocks and fell into the water, police were told. First responders searched the area and shoreline at the Pinawa Dam Provincial Heritage Park, but didn't find him. His body was found Monday afternoon. The RCMP underwater recovery team, remotely piloted aircraft systems and Manitoba Conservation assisted in the search and recovery of the body, the police release said. The Pinawa Dam was the first hydroelectric dam on the Winnipeg River, but no longer operates and is now a provincial heritage park about 100 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.
