Sask. RCMP investigate arson at Pinehouse landfill

Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating a suspected arson that destroyed an excavator in the Northern Village of Pinehouse. Officers in the village, located within sight of the Pisew fire that forced residents of La Ronge from their homes last week, were called to the Pinehouse landfill on Sunday, the RCMP said in a news release. Police believe sometime between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, one or more people fire a gun at an excavator parked in the landfill and then set the machine on fire. The excavator was significantly damaged, the RCMP says, but luckily the fire didn't spread beyond the site of the excavator. Investigators are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity near the landfill over the weekend to call the Pinehouse RCMP, or to submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
