6 convicts freed from Kanpur jail as NGO pays pending fines
Kanpur: Around half a dozen convicts who could not pay their fine imposed as part of sentence were released from Kanpur jail on Friday evening, after a voluntary organisation 'Prakriti Sahyog Forum' paid the pending fines .
The released convicts were Saurabh Mishra (2 years R I & Rs 4000 fine), Pinku Tiwari (3 months imprisonment & fine Rs 1500), Satyam (2 years R I & Rs 11500 fine), Ashish Mishra (4 yrs R I & Rs 8000 fine), Mithun Banjara (2 yrs Imprisonment & Rs 1500 fine) and Rohit Gupta (17 months Imprisonment & Rs 2000 fine).
B D Pandey, jail superintendent, said that all convicts had completed their sentence term but since they could not deposit the fine amount they were in the jail.
Voluntary organisation contacted him and authorities and proposed to pay their fine for their release. Since there was not any other criminal case against them the jail authorities asked them to execute legal formalities, which the organisation performed and thereafter six convicts were released from jail.
