This Sydney bar with cracking harbour views has just been added to a prestigious world-best list

We're all familiar with Michelin Stars (will you ever come Down Under?) – but what about a global body for cocktail bars? That's where The Pinnacle Guide comes in. It's the bar world's answer to a Michelin-style accolade, and instead of stars – or even hats – it's all about pins. Last year, two Sydney bars achieved Pin status – award-winning glamour Maybe Sammy and good-times-only El Primo Sanchez – meaning they've been recognised for excellence across drinks quality, vibe, staff happiness and sustainable practices. Now, two rounds of newly pinned bars have just been announced – and there's only one Aussie venue that made the cut. And it's right here in Sydney. Located on level 32 of the InterContinental, Aster Bar is one of Sydney's most beautiful rooftop venues, offering sweeping views of the Harbour Bridge, Opera House and twinkling city skyline. Inside channels old-world glamour, with plush seating and a marble bar. And now, it's officially a One Pin venue, according to The Pinnacle Guide. On Aster Bar, The Pinnacle Guide says: 'With sweeping views of some of Sydney's most iconic landmarks, Aster Bar is a spot for visually striking cocktails with just as impressive views.' A bit more info on The Pinnacle Guide: bars have to apply to be considered, before being anonymously assessed and tested by The Pinnacle Guide team. Applications are always open, so if you reckon your fave spot deserves a shiny Pin (I can sure think of a few) – ask them to apply. One Pin means excellent, two Pins is outstanding, and three Pins signals an exceptional experience. Currently, only one bar holds three Pins – and that's Lyaness in London. These are the 31 newly-pinned bars around the world: Two Pin bars Bar 1802, Paris, France Kaito del Valle, Mexico City, Mexico Kioku Bar at The OWO, London, UK Little Red Door, Paris, France The Bar In Front Of The Bar, Athens, Greece The Cambridge Public House, Paris, France One Pin bars Aster Bar, Sydney, Australia Baba Au Rum, Athens, Greece BackDoor43, Milan, Italy Candelaria, Paris, France Cat Bite Club, Singapore CERESIO 7, Milan, Italy Cinquanta - Spirito Italiano, Pagani, Italy Copper Spoon, Fort Wayne, USA Dr. Zhivago Bar, Zurich, Switzerland Dry Milano, Milan, Italy Equal Parts, London, UK Hanky Panky, Mexico City, Mexico Le Mary Celeste, Paris, France Manhattan, Singapore Moebius, Milan, Italy Sentaku Izakaya, Bologna, Italy Service Bar, Washington DC, USA Sexy Fish, Miami, USA Shinji's, New York, USA The Bar Below, London, UK The Diplomat, Hong Kong The K Bar, London, UK The Milk Thistle, Bristol, UK Thyme Bar, New York, USA Tiger Bar, Nashville, USA To read the full list of newly pinned bars, have a look at the website here. One of the world's best cocktail bars has a rooftop location in Barcelona

Barcelona boasts a remarkably impressive roster of drinking establishments. Cool cocktail haunts, rustic watering holes, rock'n'roll bars and G&T dens – you can find all that and more on our list of Barcelona's best bars, regularly updated by our editors on the ground. However, few are as celebrated as Paradiso, a swanky cocktail spot that hasn't only acquired the accolade of one of the best bars on the planet according to World's 50 Best (every year since 2017, no less), but was also awarded two pins by the recently-launched Pinnacle Guide. And with an innovative menu like this one, we're hardly surprised. Current drinks include 'The Cloud', a blend of Casamigos mezcal, hibiscus, Montenegro amaro, Mancino secco vermouth, birch syrup, Perrier and coffee 'cloud' which culminate in a unique smoked flavour. There's also 'Hidden Island' for those with a sweet tooth – Santa Teresa 1796 Rum, Remy Martin, salicornia and lemongrass, coconut cream, pepper syrup and actual carrot cake. Yes, you read that right – cake. As you'd imagine, it can be difficult to get a seat at the bar's original location (which is – obvs – behind a fridge in a pastrami shop). What you might not know is that Paradiso recently planted roots at a swish new location – the rooftop of Time Out Market Barcelona. Nestled at the end of Rambla del Mar, which is just across from La Rambla itself, cross the pedestrian bridge over the water and keep your eyes peeled for a big red escalator. Then, you can head all the way up to Paradiso for a knockout bevvie and some stunning views of the city's Gothic Quarter.

London awards name Belfast hotel venue ‘best bar in Northern Ireland'

Rattlebag at the Bullitt Hotel won the title at the CLASS Bar Awards on Wednesday at the Battersea Arts Centre in London. Judged by the CLASS Collective, a selection of 170 bar experts from across the UK, the CLASS Bar Awards recognise the talent, achievements and diversity of the UK bar scene. The Best Bar in Northern Ireland is a new addition to the awards line-up, with three of the four finalists coming from the Beannchor Group stable: Rattlebag, The Merchant's Cocktail Bar and Bert's Jazz Bar. The Garrick on Belfast's Chichester Street, which was part of the Beannchor Group until 2007, also made the shortlist. The latest win follows Rattlebag becoming the first cocktail bar in Ireland to feature in the Pinnacle Guide, described as the 'Michelin guide for bars'. Rattlebag, and The Merchant's Cocktail Bar, are the only two venues on the island listed in the guide. Rattlebag manager Chris Waring said: "We are proud to win this award, which recognises the exceptional quality of Northern Ireland's bar scene on a national stage. "This is a credit to the passion and innovation of our incredible team, who continue to strive to create exceptional drinks, events and experiences.'

Singapore bars Cat Bite Club and Manhattan recognised in The Pinnacle Guide

The Pinnacle Guide, launched in May 2024 as a 1, 2 and 3 PIN recognition system for the world's best bars, has announced its third round of selections. This brings the total number of PINNED bars to 85 across 12 countries, with two Singapore venues joining the list. Cat Bite Club and Manhattan were each awarded one PIN, the only bars in Singapore to be recognised in this latest round. In total, 31 new bars were awarded PINs — 25 with one PIN and six with two. No bar received the coveted three PINs this round, leaving London's Lyaness the only venue in the world to hold that top distinction. The Pinnacle Guide's selection process begins with a self-nomination application, in which bars are assessed on six core criteria including hospitality, drinks programme, design, staff welfare and community engagement. Anonymous visits by a global network of trained assessors follow to perform a holistic evaluation that reflects not just the cocktails, but the culture and values of each establishment. In this round, five new countries — France, Italy, Greece, Hong Kong and Switzerland — were added to the Guide's reach. Italy performed particularly well, with six one-PIN venues in cities such as Milan, Pagani and Bologna. France was awarded three of the six two PINs, all in Paris, including Little Red Door and Bar 1802. The Bar in Front of the Bar in Athens and Kioku Sake Bar in London also received two PINs. 'We believe that a great bar is one that not only provides an incredible drinks and hospitality experience for their guests, but also takes great care behind the scenes,' said co-founder Hannah Sharman-Cox. 'This most recent list reflects venues we can categorically say are doing excellent work on both sides of the bar.' The Pinnacle Guide's growing credibility lies in its considered methodology and equal-opportunity approach. It is open to neighbourhood bars and global destinations alike. The Guide now covers 14 countries, having recently added Canada and Ireland to its roster.

NEWS: The Pinnacle Guide Announces Its Third List of PINNED Cocktail Bars

LONDON, April 15, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Pinnacle Guide - the global 1, 2 & 3 PIN recognition system for the world's best cocktail bars - has announced the latest additions to its revered list, now taking the total to 85 PINNED bars around the world, since the launch in 2024. 31 bars have been newly-recognised with PINs - 25 with 1 PIN and six with 2 PINs - following a rigorous assessment of excellence, both behind and in front of the bar. No bar has been awarded 3 PINs, meaning Lyaness in London is still the only 3 PIN bar in the world. In this round, The Pinnacle Guide extended their reach to include five new countries - France, Italy, Greece, Hong Kong and Switzerland - taking the total number of countries covered to twelve. There are four newly awarded 1 PIN bars in London and Bristol and a new 2 PIN for Kioku Bar at The OWO, London. This makes The OWO (Old War Office) at 57 Whitehall the most PINNED venue in the world, with Spy Bar (2 PINs) and Guard's Bar (1 PIN) previously recognised. The Pinnacle Guide is considered to be the most comprehensive accolade for cocktail bars globally, rapidly becoming the ultimate symbol of excellence and a trusted resource for discerning drinkers around the world. The pioneering recognition system was created with the mission to challenge the status quo and is the first to formally reward exemplary standards on both sides of the bar. Starting with a transparent self-nomination process, The Pinnacle Guide first evaluates bars across key criteria, including their drinks program, staff welfare and sustainability efforts. This is followed by multiple in-person anonymous reviews by a global network of industry enthusiasts and experts. PINs are held for two years when bars can reapply to retain or raise their current PINNED status.
