The site has simple facilities including a hot water supply to showers, clean toilets and a sink area. Guests have previously commended the site for the picturesque river that runs next to it and its proximity to a small village with shops and a welcoming pub. The campsite costs £9 per night per adult or £5 per night per child while an electric hookup is an additional £6 per night. The pitches are quite spacious and each benefit from their own picnic table. Some of the pitches are also large enough to accommodate bigger groups and there are quiet zones for those seeking some peace and quiet. Alternatively, there is also a bell tent available to stay in, for two people, from £65 per night. The tent has parking next to it and inside there is a double bed, private toilet and a secluded garden with a cooking area. The campsite is near the quaint village of Caldbeck which lies on the edge of the Lake District and is named after the river Cold Beck which runs through the village. The village has a strong industrial past and it has become well-known due to being the home of John Peel, the famous huntsman. There are a broad range of sites, from high end shepherds huts to back-to-nature basic pitches. And coming out top in Scotland is Auchingarrich, in Perthshire. A wild-camping-style paddock is set aside for guests right beside Auchingarrich Wildlife Park and it boasts stunning views over the ponds and the surrounding countryside. Just a 15-minute drive from Crieff, Drummond Castle and Loch Earn, the campsite allows guests easy access to the park, cafe and play area. For children, there is an indoor play barn and an outdoor play area, for when the weather is dry and sunny. The campsite additionally features a barbecue area for cooking meals outdoors. Scottish wildlife centre crowned 'most child friendly' campsite this summer
Scotland's most child-friendly campsite has been named. The top prize went to a Perthshire wildlife cente. On April 23, shared its 20 top-rated campsites and glampsites for families across the UK and beyond. Pitchup is the biggest search and booking platform for outdoor accommodation around the world. According to the experts, the sites featured on the list are "tried, tested and confirmed as topping the ratings specifically for child-friendliness". The only Scotland site to feature in the top 20 is Auchingarrich Wildlife Park in Perthshire . Coming in at number 10 on the overall list, Auchingarrich Wildlife Park received a child-friendliness rating of 9.7 out of 10. The campsite is surrounded by habitats for meerkats, lemurs, goats, pigs, donkeys, and more. There is a wild- camping -style paddock set aside for guests, with views over the ponds and the surrounding Perthshire countryside. Visitors are able to buy tickets, giving them unlimited access to the main wildlife park during the day. In terms of things to, guests can pop in and meet the animals whenever they wish. There is also a soft play barn, an outdoor play area, mini golf, and ride-on tractors. The campsite features a café that is open throughout the day for mains, snacks, hot drinks, and sweet treats. There is a kids' menu on offer, as well and ice creams. Guests are also welcome to use the campsite's barbecue area for outdoor meals. Meanwhile, Comrie and Crieff are both about 10 minutes' drive away for supplies for self catering. Auchingarrich Wildlife Park has received very positive reviews from visitors. It has an overall rating of 9.6 out of 10 on One guest shared: "Camping was great, felt like was sleeping in with the animals because the campsite was close to the wildlife park! Loved hearing all the animal noises at night and in the morning. "Was different from camping in a proper campsite! Staff were great and helpful! "The wildlife park was great, loved seeing all the animals and some I hadn't seen before. Will defo be back camping or just for a visit to the park." A second posted: "We really enjoyed our stay here! The owners were incredibly kind and accommodating, and the park itself was lovely! "Animals to see and interact with at the organised times, and a lovely shop and cafe on site. We imagined it would be an incredible place to visit with children as there is lots to keep them entertained." Another wrote: "Amazing location with plenty outdoor activities for children. Great interactions with domestic and wild animals. "Beautiful surrounding with mountains and forest, much to explore." Elsewhere, topping overall list is Hill Farm Camping in Essex. Two Welsh campsites named best in Europe for families
Two Welsh campsites have been named the best in the UK for families. Presaddfed campsite and Campio Andy Camping are also included in the top sites in Europe by the review awards of 2024. The two Anglesey campsites have made it onto the list alongside sites in Somerset, Devon and even in the Netherlands. Presaddfed in Bodedern on the island received an overall rating of 9.6, and is described as a "peaceful rural campsite in open countryside" on a farm. Its child-friendly rating came at 9.7. The site comes with "well-equipped amenities block", four private shower rooms, toilets and washing-up facilities. It adds: "There's only one rule: this is a peaceful spot and the owners would like to keep it that way, so please, no music or loud noise after 9.30pm." The site is a 15-minute drive from the beautiful Trearddur Bay beach and 45-minute drive from Eryri. According to it has Neolithic tombs and livestock on the site, and is close to walks, shops and a pub. The review reads: "Well, history aficionados, here's one for you. Presaddfed is a quiet and remote wild campsite set next to the remains of ancient Neolithic chamber tombs. "And nature lovers should gather round too, because this site is also close to woodland walks where you might – just might – get to spot red squirrels. "As this family-friendly spot is based on a secluded working farm near Bodedern on Anglesey, it's also a given that you'll wake up to an abundance of birdsong and livestock grazing in the next-door fields. "Bodedern village (20 minutes' walk) has a renowned butcher's shop, a handy late-opening convenience store and a pub. "If you'd like to explore further afield, jump in the car and you can be paddling in the sea at Trearddur Bay beach in 15 minutes, or hiking in Snowdonia [Eryri] in 45 minutes." The site is also located a five-minute walk from a clay pigeon shooting centre which is open on Saturday and Wednesday. For those who are looking for an adrenaline-thumping experience, Zip World Penrhyn Quarry of Bethesda is a 40-minute drive. Meanwhile, Campio Andy Camping in Dwyran also received a child-friendly rating of 9.7 and an overall rating of 9.9. It is a dog-friendly grass tent site on the island, with views of Eryri. Visitors are only a 10-minute drive from Traeth Llanddwyn and a 40-minute drive from Eryri. On the site, barbecues are permitted, there are flushable toilets and outdoor cold showers, with a bus stop and a pub nearby. The review reads: "Pack up your tents and poles and other essential holiday bits, for Campio Andy Camping is a lovely tents-only site in the village of Dwyran on the Isle of Anglesey. "It's likely you will rave about the views here for a long time to come, with Snowdonia in the distance. The local beach is absolutely boast-worthy too: the car park for Ynys Llanddwyn is just 10 minutes' drive away. "Look forward to dog-friendly grass pitches and space for barbecues (but no fires, please). There are grassy fields all around, although the site is also next to a main road with easy access to Niwbwrch (also known as Newborough), which has stepping stones, a great pub and access to walks through a nature reserve. "Sleeping right next to a petrol station is always handy; the shop sells a few groceries if you need them. There's also a bus stop nearby. "On site, the facilities are made up of flushable toilets and a cold outdoor shower. Just for guests, the site also arranges private evening falconry demonstrations (weather permitting)." Elsewhere, Hill Farm Camping made it the top of the list with an overall rating and child-friendly rating of 10, while RCN Vakantiepark de Flaasbloem in Noord-Brabant in the Netherlands received an overall rating of 9.4. Peak View Gardens in Somerset got a 9.7 overall rating and Rhea Farm and Fishery in Devon received a rating of 9.8.
