String of dirt bikes gone missing in one community

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County couple says the two bikes are worth tens of thousands of dollars and were taken from their garage earlier this week in the middle of the night. One of the bikes is brand new, and together they are worth nearly $30,000. 28/22 News spoke with the couple, who say it happened in the middle of the night, and they provided us with a video that captures the bikes being taken away. Man wanted for murder of Luzerne County woman remains at large The video provided to 28/22 News shows two people pushing a pair of dirt bikes down East Charles Street in Plains Township around 4:00 a.m. on Monday. 'It was like somebody stole our child,' Plains Township resident April Amos expressed. The 2023 KTM and 2025 KTM brand bikes belong to Amos' boyfriend, Jesse. Amos says it was in the early morning hours on Monday when Jesse's dad noticed something missing inside the garage. 'We were just casually sleeping and getting up from work when my boyfriend's father came over and was freaking out, because the back door was left open, and he looks in and he was like 'Something's missing.' And then he realized that two gigantic dirt bikes were missing out of the garage,' Amos explained. Amos explained that one bike was bolted down to a stand while the other was placed on a kickstand. She says the bikes were both pushed out through the back door, then led down this path through their driveway and onto East Charles Street where the video footage was captured. The bikes are worth around $10,000 each. The couple uses them to race at several spots in and out of the area. 'We go state to state all the time. We were actually supposed to be away this past weekend, but it was a big rain-out, so we didn't go anywhere,' Amos stated. And this couple isn't the only one to see their dirt bikes go missing. There's been several other posts to social media this week reporting missing dirt bikes that 28/22 News has yet to confirm. Amos says she is aware of the posts and has sympathy for the others who've had their property disappear. 'We all have reached out to each other, and we are in this big community where we are here to help each other. We are doing extra precautions to make sure this doesn't happen again,' said Amos. Amos says they are offering a $500 reward for each bike if they're returned. Both the Plains Township and Kingston Police Departments have yet to return 28/22 News calls regarding the bikes and social media posts about the other missing property.
