Upshur County Public Library hosts Plant & Prosper event

BUCKHANNON, (WBOY) — The Upshur County Public Library hosted its Plant and Prosper event Saturday, designed to cultivate both horticultural knowledge and neighborhood connections. Open to residents of all ages, the event served as a platform for individuals to engage with the joys of gardening while accessing valuable resources and expertise. One highlight of the event was a seed library swap, where attendees could exchange a diverse variety of seeds to encourage biodiversity and personal gardening projects. Member of the Randolph-Tucker Master Gardeners Association Ann Ludlow further explained the importance of the event. 'We have a great variety of seeds, both flowers and vegetables, a number of heirlooms which is very important to a lot of people nowadays that they are not getting hybrids, that they are getting heirlooms that they can grow years after year.' First Fridays hosts community-wide Easter egg hunt in Clarksburg The event also featured an educational session on nutrition propagating plants from bulbs, which gave instructions for gardeners of all experience levels. Several local gardening organizations were present to share insights, promote sustainable practices, and connect with community members interested in cultivating their green spaces. President of Fred Brooks Garden Club Beth Post told 12 News more about the importance of learning and gardening. 'Upshur County Public Library has a seed catalog available year-round. People can come in and get up to ten packs of seeds during a visit,' the President of Fred Brooks Garden Club Beth Post said. 'Upshur County is a big gardening area, and a lot of people don't need too much encouragement to get out and garden, but free seeds are always a good lore to come into the library and see what is available.'
