Over 38k applications for Plus One admission in Ernakulam

Kochi: With the first allotment for Plus One admission now open, a total of 38,687 students applied for various streams in Ernakulam district through the Higher Secondary Centralised Admission Process (HSCAP) website. Admissions are being held for 24,578 seats across 209 higher secondary schools in the district. Out of the total applicants, 20,182 students secured seats in the first allotment. Ernakulam has a total of 651 batches across science, commerce, and humanities streams. The science stream continues to be the favourite, offering the highest number of merit seats at 12,966, followed by 7,552 seats in commerce and 3,583 in humanities. According to officials from the department of education, 5,043 students who applied in the first allotment hail from other districts. The sports quota also saw strong interest, with 628 applications for 631 seats and 458 students successfully securing admission under this category. Govt schools in the district continue to accommodate a higher number of students compared to aided and unaided institutions.

As many as 2.49 lakh students received allotment on publication of the first allotment list in the main phase of Plus One higher secondary single-window admission on Monday. This is higher than the number of students who received trial allotment a few days ago (2,47,428). The total number of applicants for the first allotment was 4,63,686. Of them, 2,49,540 received allotment. The number of seats, including additional seats for the differently abled, available was 3,18,574. The number of seats vacant after the first allotment is 69,034. The total number of seats available for the trial allotment was 3,17,583. Like in the trial allotment, slightly fewer than half the applicants in Malappuram received allotment. The district that had the maximum number of applicants – 82,498. The number of seats allotted was 40,566, while the total number of seats available was 57,633. The total number of seats vacant is 17,067. The number of applications received in Kozhikode was 48,238. The total number of seats available was 31,448 and those allotted was 23,840. As many as 7,608 seats were vacant. In Palakkad, 22,652 of the 45,893 applicants received allotment. There were 27,454 seats available in the district. This left 4,802 seats in the district. Twenty-seven seats remained vacant in the general category after the first allotment, 268 in the Ezhava/Thiyya category, and 221 in the Muslim category. As many as 3,740 seats were vacant in the Latin Catholic/Anglo-Indian category. In the Scheduled Caste category, 14,098 seats were vacant, while in the Scheduled Tribe category, it was 27,094. As many as 6,121 of the 8,199 sport quota seats were allotted. Now, only 2,078 seats remain vacant. Of the 1,529 model residential school quota seats, 1,314 were allotted; 215 seats were vacant. Admissions will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday and continue till 5 p.m. on June 5. Candidates who get the first option in this allotment should remit the fee and take permanent admission. Those who get other options may take temporary or permanent admission.

The results of Plus One higher secondary and vocational higher secondary examinations held in March have been published. The results can be accessed online through The pass percentage in the school going category is 62.28%, a drop from 67.3% last year. The pass percentage in the open school category is 40.53%, which is 0.20 percentage points lower than that of last year. In the technical school category, the pass percentage is 44.37%. Last year, it was 48.78%.

Additionally, 28,177 candidates were registered under the Open School stream, while 1,572 candidates registered for the Technical stream. Out of the school-going regular students, 3,79,444 candidates' marks were tabulated, and the overall pass percentage (students scoring above 30%) stood at 62.28% in 2025. For Open School students, 27,295 marks were tabulated, with a lower overall pass percentage of 40.53%. Meanwhile, in the Technical stream, 1,562 candidates had their marks tabulated, and 44.37% of them passed. Among regular school-going candidates, the Science stream had the highest number of registered students at 1,90,383, with 1,89,479 marks tabulated and a pass percentage of 68.69%. The Commerce stream followed, with 1,12,647 students registered and 59.64% passing. The Humanities stream had the lowest pass percentage at 50.57%, with 80,617 students registered. In the Open School category, Science students recorded a 70.36% pass rate—the highest among all categories, despite having only 3,335 registrations. Humanities and Commerce in Open School lagged behind with 37.30% and 35.31% pass rates, respectively. For the Technical stream, 1,562 marks were recorded and 693 candidates scored above 30 marks, bringing the pass rate to 44.37%. Compared to last year, there has been a visible dip in performance across all categories. Last year, the overall pass percentage for school-going regular students was 67.30%, which has dropped to 62.28% in 2025. Similarly, the Open School category saw a marginal decline from 40.73% in 2024 to 40.53% this year. Stream-wise, the Science stream for school-going students had a pass percentage of 69.98% last year, slightly higher than this year's 68.69%. Commerce dropped from 69.20% to 59.64%, and Humanities declined from 57.96% to 50.57%.
