Karnataka home minister chairs police review meeting
Mangaluru: Home minister G Parameshwara chaired a progress review meeting on law and order at the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner's Office on Friday. The meeting was attended by senior police officials from Mangaluru City police and SPs from four districts—Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru under the western range. The meeting provided directions on several issues and directed officials to implement strict measures. To completely dismantle the drug network, officials were told to keep a close watch on the movements of drug peddlers and initiate legal action wherever necessary. Concerns were raised over the rising number of traffic rule violations, especially cases of minors driving vehicles, leading to accidents and fatalities. Authorities were directed to launch awareness campaigns and enforcement drives to curb this trend. Cases of crimes against women and children, as well as atrocities against scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, were also discussed. The meeting was attended by senior officers from Mangaluru City Police and Superintendents of Police (SPs) from four districts under the Western Range: Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru. Various issues were discussed, and officials were given directions to implement strict measures. To fully dismantle the drug network, officers were asked to keep a close watch on the movements of drug peddlers and take legal action wherever necessary. Concerns were raised about the increasing number of traffic rule violations, especially involving minors under the age of 18 driving vehicles, which has led to accidents and fatalities. Authorities were told to conduct awareness campaigns and enforcement drives to tackle this issue. The meeting also addressed crimes against women and children, and atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The Home Minister emphasised that the accused in such cases must not escape justice. 223 booked for using tinted glass; Rs 1.1L fine collected
Mangaluru: A total of 223 cases were registered against vehicle owners/drivers for using tinted glass in the city, and fines totalling to Rs 1.1 lakh were imposed, DCP (law and order) Sidharth Goyal. To prevent crimes and address traffic rule violations under the Motor Vehicles Act, Mangaluru City Police conducted a two-day joint operation within city limits from Monday. Personnel from traffic police and law & order police stations jointly acted against vehicles using black film (sun film) or tinted glass on car windows. DCP (law and order) Sidharth Goyal said a total of 223 cases were registered against vehicle owners/drivers for using tinted glass, and fines totalling to Rs 1.1 lakh were imposed. Additionally, tinted glasses and black film stickers from these 223 vehicles were removed on the spot by the drivers, and necessary action was taken along with providing proper awareness to them. Furthermore, a meeting was organised in the conference hall of the Police Commissioner's Office and at police stations with owners of car showrooms, accessory shops, garages, and sticker shops operating within the jurisdiction of Mangaluru City Commissionerate on Tuesday. In the meeting, attendees were instructed not to install additional tint on car windows, in accordance with the Supreme Court's directive, since such vehicles can potentially be used for committing crimes. This special drive will continue in the coming days, a statement stated.
