Bhopal Police sub-inpector faces action after asking gym to ban entry of Muslims

A sub-inspector in Bhopal has been removed from field duty after a video surfaced showing him allegedly instructing a gym owner to prohibit Muslims from entering the facility. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and prompted a police investigation. The video shows sub-inspector Dinesh Sharma telling a gym owner, 'No Muslim will come here to train or take training. I am telling you this clearly.' The comments were reportedly made after members of the right-wing outfit Bajrang Dal visited the gym, located in the Ayodhya Nagar area, and raised objections to the presence of Muslim trainers. Police were called in to defuse the situation. It was during this intervention that Sharma allegedly made the controversial remarks, according to officials. Following the video, the Bhopal police launched an investigation. On Monday, Sharma was attached to the Police Lines an official said. An official also stated that the police department would not tolerate any actions that create tension between communities. Following the Bajrang Dal members' complaint about the presence of Muslim trainers, Bhopal BJP MP Alok Sharma said a list of such gyms where Muslims impart training was being prepared. He said there are a lot of gyms that enlist Muslim trainers, and a list of such gyms will be made, which will be given to the police. 'There are a lot of gyms in Bhopal, we are enlisting, in which the trainers are Muslims. Even women should be gym trainers... We will give this list to the police in the coming times... Nobody will be permitted for love jihad now.' He also noted that 'land jihad' is going on in the state, and the administration will take action on such cases. The BJP MP's statement came when he interacted with the media post the 'Bhopal Vileenikaran Diwas' (Bhopal Merger Day) celebrations. (With PTI and ANI Inputs)

Madhya Pradesh: Cop caught on video asking gym to bar entry of Muslims; removed from field duty

Madhya Pradesh: A police sub-inspector has been removed from field duty and attached to police lines after he allegedly asked a gym owner not to allow entry to Muslims at the facility in Bhopal, officials said on June 3. The action against sub-inspector Dinesh Sharma was taken after a video surfaced on social media showing him purportedly making the controversial comments. "No Mohamedan (Muslim) will come here to train or take training. I am telling you this clearly," the policeman was heard instructing the gym owner in the now-viral video clip on social media. A group of people had raised objection to the presence of Muslim trainers at the gym in Bhopal's Ayodhya Nagar locality, according to reports. Bajrang Dal members had visited the gym, and raised questions over the presence of Muslim trainers at the facility, police said, news agency PTI reported. Police personnel, including SI Dinesh Sharma, were subsequently called to the spot to manage the situation. Sharma allegedly made the comments at that time, an official said. After a video of his comments went viral on social media, the police started an investigation into the matter. Following the investigation, Sharma was on Monday attached to the Police Lines here, an official said. The police have made it very clear that no such act will be allowed which creates tension between communities, the official added. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Bhopal, Alok Sharma, told the media on June 1 that a 'list of gym instructors' in the city had been compiled, and insisted that women clients should be trained only by women instructors. 'The list of gym trainers will be handed over to the police, who will act according to the law,' he said. Congress MLA Arif Masood criticised the move, questioning the rationale behind targeting gym professionals based on religion. 'Is running a gym now a crime? If it's being run following rules, then what is the problem?' he asked. No Mohamedan (Muslim) will come here to train or take training. I am telling you this clearly.

Gyanvapi case judge seeks enhanced security

Lucknow: Additional District and Sessions Judge (FTC-New) and Special Judge (Gangsters Act) in Chitrakoot, Ravi Kumar, has written to the authorities seeking enhanced residential security, citing serious threats to his life stemming from his role in the sensitive Gyanvapi case. In a formal letter dated May 29, Judge Kumar stated that he was allotted govt accommodation at House No. J-9, Judges Colony, Sonepur, Karwi, Chitrakoot, where he resides with his family. He pointed out that although he was provided with residential security during his time in Bareilly and after the Gyanvapi hearings, no such arrangements have been made for him in Chitrakoot. He referenced two prior threats — one registered in 2024 by the ATS Lucknow against a Bhopal resident under BNS and UAPA provisions, and another in 2022 in Varanasi, both involving threats to his life related to the Gyanvapi case. The judge said he has been raising the issue with the Reserve Inspector, Police Lines, but in vain. However, Superintendent of Police, Chitrakoot, Arun Kumar Singh, stated that adequate security has already been provided. "A total of six personnel has been deployed for judge Ravi Kumar's security," he told TOI. "He has not produced any specific order from the high court or the govt directing an increase in security. Nevertheless, we are taking all necessary precautions." Judge Kumar highlighted in his letter that his current posting in Chitrakoot, a district bordering Madhya Pradesh, heightens his security vulnerability. He has urged authorities to provide the same level of protection he previously received, cautioning that "failure to do so could lead to a serious incident".
