Plainfield man in hospital after barricading himself in bedroom
PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Plainfield man is in the hospital after allegedly barricading himself inside a bedroom with a knife and threatening to harm himself and others Friday afternoon.
According to Plainfield Police, at approximately 2:35 p.m. they responded to a Lake Street residence in the Moosup Village for a report of a 42-year-old man, who had allegedly consumed a 'significant' quantity of alcohol and unspecified medication, was armed with a knife.
The first officers on the scene found the man inside the residence with a knife. When the man saw the officers, he retreated to a bedroom and barricaded himself inside.
Police said that while inside the bedroom, he allegedly stabbed the door with the knife several times while making 'homicidal and suicidal' statements. Additional officers arrived on the scene and evacuated the remaining occupants of the residence.
Police negotiated with the man to relinquish the knife and exit the bedroom peacefully. After about 40 minutes, the man became disoriented due to the alcohol and medication he had consumed prior. Officers then entered the room and secured him and the knife without incident.
The man was transported Backus Emergency Room in Norwich for a Police Request for Emergency evaluation. Police are not releasing his identity.
