LAKELAND, Fla. - One person was killed Saturday morning in an RV fire in Lakeland. What we know Shortly before 12 p.m., Polk County Fire Rescue crews responded to the fire on Combee Road. When crews arrived on scene, they found an RV fully engulfed in flames with one person trapped inside. OTHER NEWS: Man shot to death in Tampa, search on for shooter Officials said firefighters worked as quickly as they could to put the fire out and when they did, found a person dead inside. No additional injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshals Office and Polk County Sheriff's Office. What we don't know The name of the person killed has not been released. 1 dead after RV fire in Polk County, officials say
The Brief An RV fire broke out on Saturday morning in Polk County. Firefighters said one person died after being trapped inside the RV. No additional injuries were reported, and no patients were transported to the hospital. POLK COUNTY, Fla. - One person is dead after being trapped inside an RV that caught fire on Saturday morning in Polk County, officials say. What we know Firefighters with Polk County Fire Rescue (PCFR) said they responded to a working structure fire around 11:52 a.m. on Saturday at Combee Road in Lakeland. When crews arrived, they found an RV fully engulfed in flames with an individual potentially trapped inside. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire, but said one person died. No additional injuries were reported by the crews, and no patients were transported to the hospital. What we don't know Authorities have not yet released the identity of the person killed in the fire. It is currently unclear what started the RV fire. What's next The incident is currently under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshals Office and the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Create Account Timothy Schulz, 42, had climbed into a patrol vehicle to try to get the weapons inside when deputies opened fire, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told reporters following Monday morning's shooting. The deadly confrontation occurred when people reported seeing a man — later identified as Schulz — swimming in an alligator-infested lake in a gated community in Lakeland, Florida, according to CBS News . One witness tried to give him a life preserver while another tried to speak with him but the man only growled in response, the sheriff said. Schulz ended up taking a bite to his right arm from a gator. 'The fact that he was bitten by an alligator, significantly, and still continued his rampage is shocking,' Judd said. Schulz managed to get out of the water, picked up a set of garden shears from a home, then tried to break into a vehicle with a brick, the sheriff said. RECOMMENDED VIDEO The suspect charged at deputies, who tried to use a Taser on him twice. 'They were still trying to take him peacefully into custody,' Judd explained, when Schulz ran to a patrol vehicle to try to grab a weapon. Schulz was shot multiple times, as a result. The sheriff's office shared video and photos to X of damaged police vehicles and what appeared to be multiple bullet holes through the windshield and windows. The sheriff detailed Schulz's lengthy history of drug-related arrests, adding that the dead man had been released from jail on May 20 after he was busted for possession of meth.
