Monitoring officer inspects development works in Corporation
District Monitoring Officer and Chairman and Managing Director of Poompuhar Shipping Corporation Limited, N. Venkatesh, inspected the construction of the integrated vegetable and grocery market and the newly established satellite bus stand, both located in Solar on Karur Road, on Tuesday.
The bus stand was established at a cost of ₹63.50 crore on 19.9 acres of Corporation-owned land. The foundation stone was laid on August 18, 2022, with a scheduled completion timeline of two years. However, due to a shortage of funds, the works were delayed, and the remaining 5% of the project is yet to be completed. The facility was developed to operate buses to the southern districts.
At the rear of the bus stand, construction of the integrated market began in January this year at a cost of ₹18.48 crore. The contractor is expected to complete the project within 18 months.
Mr. Venkatesh, accompanied by Additional Collector (Development) and DRDA Project Director Arpit Jain and Corporation Commissioner (in-charge) and Deputy Commissioner K. Dhanalakshmi and Corporation engineers, inspected the completed works at the bus stand and ongoing works at the market. Officials briefed him on the progress and expected completion dates, after which the facilities will be opened for public use. He directed officials to expedite the work and ensure completion within the stipulated timeline.
Later, Mr. Venkatesan held a meeting with officials at the Collectorate and reviewed the status of various development works. District Revenue Officer S. Santhakumar, Gobichettipalayam Sub-Collector S. Sivanandham, Deputy Director of Health Services Aruna, and other officials were present in the meeting.
