New centre planned for Glasgow's Possilpark - what you need to know

Plans to create a 'hub for innovation, collaboration and economic growth' were announced by the government late last year. Now, Glasgow councillors are set to accept funding to allow housing association NG Homes to deliver the scheme. It is hoped the centre, which will have a fully equipped multimedia room and a network of support for 24 local entrepreneurs, will be completed by December this year. Money for the project is coming from the Scottish Government's regeneration capital grant fund — and councillors will also be asked to accept almost £400,000 for the Glue Factory, on Farnell Street, this Thursday. The fund aims to 'provide financial support to projects that will help to deliver large-scale improvements to deprived areas', a council report states. The Possilpark project is described as 'an exciting initiative aimed at fostering local entrepreneurship and community development'. Plans for the Glue Factory include a 'micro-power station retrofit', which aims to transform the 'former industrial site into an energy-positive building'. Now providing studio workspace, including a green screen and edit suite, the funding will help to improve the building's insulation and energy efficiency. Solar panels will also be installed. The scheme will be delivered by Agile City, a community interest company which also runs Civic House on Civic Street. The council report adds: 'This project is part of a wider movement to repurpose post-industrial buildings into small-scale power stations, contributing to Glasgow's sustainability goals.' Another funding round has been announced by the Scottish Government, with Glasgow City Council planning to make several applications by the deadline of June 27.
