Urgent food alert issued over seasoning product that may be 'unsafe' to eat

An urgent food safety alert has been issued for a batch of Potato Chips Seasoning, which could be unsafe for some people to eat. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland announced on Thursday that Damasgate Wholesale is recalling its Sofra Potato Chips Seasoning from sale because it contains peanuts, which is not correctly declared on the ingredient label. "This may make this product unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of peanut, and therefore, these consumers should not eat this product," the FSAI said in a statement. Packs with all currently issued best before dates and lot numbers of the 100g seasoning packets are involved in the recall. Damasgate Wholesale has taken immediate action to remove the affected product from store shelves and is working with allergy support organisations to alert their members about the recall. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to the nut can suffer life-threatening reactions if they consume the product and customers who have Sofra Potato Chips Seasoning in their cupboard are urged not to eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. According to the Mayo Clinic, when someone with a peanut allergy consumes peanuts, symptoms can happen quickly and may include: Skin reactions, such as hives, redness or swelling. Itching or tingling in or around the mouth and throat. Digestive problems, such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea or vomiting. Tightening of the throat. Shortness of breath or wheezing. Runny nose. For those who experience anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction, symptoms may include: Constriction of airways. Swelling of the lips, tongue and throat that makes it hard to breathe. A severe drop in blood pressure, also known as shock. Rapid pulse. Dizziness, lightheadedness or loss of consciousness.
