BMW Motorrad Dealers Top-Ranked in 2025 Powersports Study for Providing Quick and Easy Service Appointments

MONTEREY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jun 2, 2025-- BMW Motorrad dealerships ranked highest in the 2025 Pied Piper PSI ® Service Telephone Effectiveness ® (STE ® ) Powersports Industry Study, which measured the efficiency and quality of customer attempts to schedule service appointments by telephone. View the full release here: Source: 2025 Pied Piper Powersports Service Telephone Effectiveness Industry Study (USA) Pied Piper submitted service calls to 1,531 powersports dealerships representing 27 brands, then evaluated the telephone interactions. Each brand's overall STE Score is a combined average of its individual dealer performances. Scores range from 0 to 100 and include over 30 differently weighted measurements tracking the best practices most likely to generate service revenue and customer loyalty. BMW Ranked Highest: Consistency in Challenging Conditions 'BMW has consistently been ranked among the top three performing brands during the three years this annual study has been conducted,' said Cameron O'Hagan, Pied Piper's Vice President of Metrics and Analytics. ' This year they have achieved the top position due to that consistency.' BMW led the 2025 STE study with an average STE score of 50 – the same score BMW achieved in both 2023 and 2024. The following are examples of behaviors which set BMW dealers apart from the industry average when customers call for service: Why Should We Care About a Customer's Service Telephone Experience? ' Well-run service departments focus on building customer loyalty, and the first opportunity to drive that loyalty is a customer's phone call to schedule an appointment,' said O'Hagan. ' Powersports customers who struggle to schedule service vote with their feet by moving to another dealership or independent shop. In extreme cases, due to most powersports purchases being discretionary, if ownership becomes frustrating, many customers will begin to question whether it's worth the effort and may sell the vehicle and become sour with the brand. ' The industry's average STE score improved one point over the past year, reaching an average score of 44, one point higher than 2024 but trailing the 2023 high watermark average score by two points. Performance varied substantially from dealership to dealership, with a minority of dealerships clearly benefiting from their superior processes. 16% of dealerships nationally achieved STE scores over 70, by providing an interaction with their service customers that was speedy, efficient and proactively helpful. In contrast, customers for 11% of the dealerships hung up their phone having completely failed in their attempt to schedule service. The business implications between those two extremes are substantial. Powersport Industry Performance Lacking in Key Areas Customer expectations for scheduling service aren't set by the powersports industry. Nearly all powersports customers also schedule service for their cars and trucks, and over the past few years the auto industry has significantly improved the service scheduling experience for their customers. Industry's Greatest Opportunities for Improvement ' The cliché is true: sales sells the first; service sells the rest,' said O'Hagan. ' Dealerships that prioritize a superior service experience gain in both sales and service.' Turn 'Just Drop it Off' Into a Positive – 41% of powersports customers are told to 'just drop it off,' where the vehicle will wait—often outside in the elements—for an undetermined number of days, before the dealership will get to it. This demonstrates little concern for a customer's time or expectations. However, this 'drop it off' mentality can be transformed from a frustration into a positive experience by also offering an appointment. For example: ' I can schedule you two weeks from today, or if you prefer, you're welcome to bring it in and we'll try to get to it sooner. ' Framing it this way respects the customer's time and shows that the dealership is organized and responsive—turning a traditionally negative interaction into a loyalty-building moment. Understand What Customers Are Really Experiencing – In the 2025 study there were 14 brands which improved their STE score over the previous year. The brand with the greatest improvement was Kubota, with a six-point gain since last year, moving from a tenth-place ranking in 2024 to second in this year's study. Kubota dealers nearly doubled their rate of setting appointments, occurring 58% of the time in 2025 compared to 31% of the time last year. Kubota dealers also drastically cut the rate of insisting 'just drop it off' from 62% of the time in 2024 to 38% of the time this year. The key to this improvement was showing dealers what their customers actually experienced when calling for service. 2025 Brand Performance Compared Performance varied substantially by brand, as shown by these examples: Why Was This Study Conducted? FIRST QUARTER RESULTS The first quarter of Fiscal 2026 was marked by continued softer consumer demand exacerbated by the uncertainty surrounding changes to global tariffs and trades regulations. As the Company continued to focus on reducing network inventory levels on Seasonal Products and managed industry slowdown on Year-Round Products, the volume of shipments and revenues decreased compared to the same period last year. The decrease in the volume of shipments, the higher sales programs due to the sustained promotional environment and the decreased leverage of fixed costs have led to a decrease in the gross profit and gross profit margin compared to the same period last year. This decrease was partially offset by production efficiencies. The Company's North American retail sales were flat for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025. Following late snowfall, the Company delivered strong Snowmobile retail sales during the end of the season, which allowed to outpace the industry and reduce network inventory. The increase in Seasonal Products retail sales were offset by a decrease in Year-Round Products retail sales mainly due to the industry's slowdown. Revenues decreased by $153.0 million, or 7.7%, to $1,846.9 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025, compared to $1,999.9 million for the corresponding period ended April 30, 2024. The decrease in revenues was primarily due to a lower volume sold across most product lines, as a result of the industry's slowdown in Year-Round Products and continued focus on reducing network inventory levels in Seasonal Products. The decrease was also due to higher sales programs across most product lines. The decrease was partially offset by favourable pricing across most product lines. The decrease includes a favourable foreign exchange rate variation of $33 million. Year-Round Products (60% of Q1-FY26 revenues): Revenues from Year-Round Products decreased by $52.0 million, or 4.5%, to $1,105.8 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025, compared to $1,157.8 million for the corresponding period ended April 30, 2024. The decrease in revenues from Year-Round Products was primarily attributable to a lower volume of units sold across most product lines as a result of softer consumer demand, unfavourable product mix in 3WV and higher sales programs across most product lines. The decrease was partially offset by favourable product mix in ATV and SSV, and favourable pricing across all product lines. The decrease includes a favourable foreign exchange rate variation of $19 million. Seasonal Products (23% of Q1-FY26 revenues): Revenues from Seasonal Products decreased by $115.9 million, or 21.7%, to $419.2 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025, compared to $535.1 million for the corresponding period ended April 30, 2024. The decrease in revenues from Seasonal Products was primarily attributable to a lower volume of units sold across most product lines as a result of continued focus on reducing network inventory levels, unfavourable product mix in Snowmobile and higher sales programs. The decrease was partially offset by favourable product mix and pricing on PWC. The decrease includes a favourable foreign exchange rate variation of $6 million. PA&A and OEM Engines (17% of Q1-FY26 revenues): Revenues from PA&A and OEM Engines increased by $14.9 million, or 4.9%, to $321.9 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025, compared to $307.0 million for the corresponding period ended April 30, 2024. The increase in revenues from PA&A and OEM engines was primarily attributable to higher demand in parts following a strong end of Snowmobile season. The increase was partially offset by lower volume of OEM engines and Marine PA&A sold. The increase includes a favourable foreign exchange rate variation of $8 million. North American Retail Sales The Company's North American retail sales were flat for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025 compared to the same period last year. Seasonal Products retail sales were up driven by strong end-of-season retail in Snowmobile following late snowfall, offset by a decrease in Year-Round Products retail sales mainly due to the industry's slowdown. North American Year-Round Products retail sales decreased on a percentage basis in the low-teens range compared to the three-month period ended April 30, 2024. The Year-Round Products industry sales decreased on a percentage basis in the mid-single digits over the same period. North American Seasonal Products retail sales increased on a percentage basis in the high-twenties range compared to the three-month period ended April 30, 2024. The Seasonal Products industry sales increased on a percentage basis in the low-teens range over the same period. Gross profit Gross profit decreased by $126.9 million, or 24.3%, to $394.8 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025, compared to $521.7 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2024. Gross profit margin percentage decreased by 470 basis points to 21.4% for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025, compared to 26.1% for the three-month period ended April 30, 2024. The decreases in gross profit and gross profit margin percentage were the result of a lower volume of units sold, higher sales programs and decreased leverage of fixed costs due to reduced production. The decreases were partially offset by favourable pricing across most product lines and production efficiencies. The decrease in gross profit includes an unfavourable foreign exchange rate variation of $10 million. Operating Expenses Operating expenses decreased by $30.5 million, or 9.2%, to $300.9 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025, compared to $331.4 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2024. The decrease in operating expenses was mainly attributable to lower G&A expenses due to cost optimization, lower S&M expenses and lower restructuring and reorganization costs. The decrease in operating expenses includes an unfavourable foreign exchange rate variation of $13 million. Normalized EBITDA [1] Normalized EBITDA [1] decreased by $106.6 million, or 34.7%, to $200.8 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025, compared to $307.4 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2024. The decrease in Normalized EBITDA [1] was primarily due to lower gross profit. Net Income Net income increased by $118.5 million, or 278.8%, to $161.0 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025, compared to $42.5 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2024. The increase in net income was primarily due to a favourable foreign exchange rate variation on the U.S. denominated long-term debt and lower operating expenses. The increase was partially offset by lower operating income resulting from a lower gross profit and gross profit margin. Net Loss from Discontinued Operations Net loss decreased by $39.0 million, or 78.2%, to $(10.9) million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025, compared to $(49.9) million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2024. The decrease in net loss was primarily due to a higher volume of units sold, lower sales programs, and lower operating costs as a result of restructuring. LIQUIDITY AND CAPITAL RESOURCES Consolidated net cash flows generated from operating activities totaled $214.5 million for the three-month period ended April 30, 2025, compared to $141.4 million generated for the three-month period ended April 30, 2024. The increase was mainly due to favourable changes in working capital and lower income taxes paid, partially offset by lower profitability. The favourable changes in working capital were the result of increased trade payables and accruals due to higher average payment terms. The favourable changes in working capital were partially offset by a reduction in account receivables and provisions level, resulting from a lower volume of units sold. The Company invested $51.4 million of its liquidity in capital expenditures for the introduction of new products and modernization of the Company's software infrastructure to support future growth. During the three-month period ended April 30, 2025, the Company also returned $15.6 million to its shareholders through quarterly dividend payouts. The Company did not repurchase subordinate voting shares under its share repurchase programs. Dividend On May 28, 2025, the Company's Board of Directors declared a quarterly dividend of $0.215 per share for holders of its multiple voting shares and subordinate voting shares. The dividend will be paid on July 14, 2025 to shareholders of record at the close of business on June 30, 2025. NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Ohio has 400,000 motorcycles registered. Pennsylvania is just shy of that number. Both states are in the top 10 nationally. Riding a motorcycle can be a refreshing ride, and there's no doubt that it's popular. 'Motorcycling is very freeing for a lot of people, just get out and hit the open road,' said Nate Goberish, with Johnny K's Powersports in Niles More bikes are traveling as the weather improves. Goberish is one of them. He's aware that when a motorcycle has an accident though, it's usually a serious one. 'I recently lost my cousin about two or three weeks ago in a motorcycle accident, right there on 82, so it's definitely something that hits home for me. It's something I'm conscious of every time I go out,' he said. Over 6,000 motorcyclists were killed in motorcycle accidents in the most recent year of statistics. It accounted for 15% of all traffic fatalities. 'They don't have the protection of the airbags or, you know, the safety features in the vehicle that the vehicles have,' said Niles Fire Chief John Stevens. It's important for drivers to be aware of the safety challenge faced by motorcyclists, such as size and visibility. 'Blind spot detection has come a long way in technology, but it's not always right. Always make sure you're looking over your shoulder, looking out for a guy like me that's going to be on two wheels coming right by you,' Gopberish said. Cars and motorcycles share the road. The drivers should respect each other and leave plenty of distance between vehicles. Motorcyclists want drivers to remember, they're there. 'One bad apple doesn't ruin the whole bunch. So you got to make sure that you're looking out. Look twice, save a life,' Goberish said Many motorcycle dealerships teach a riding academy and how to be safe.
