at three primary junctions is experiencing glitches during its trial Ballalbagh Junction, the experimental traffic signal system resulted in significant delays, causing difficulties for drivers due to reduced vehicle movement speed.
Additionally, the trial run of the new traffic signal system at other places, including the KSRTC Junction, led to traffic disruptions. Drivers of buses, autorickshaws, and other vehicles found the traffic signals at additional locations a hurdle during peak Prabha KS, general manager (technical) of the MSCL, told TOI that new traffic signals with artificial intelligence (AI) cameras were installed at around 13 junctions in the city at an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore. "We completed the work on the installation of cameras and signal lamps at nearly 10 locations, where city traffic police may begin the trial run of the system. Since the project was just completed, it requires fine-tuning to solve issues. Since the entire system is AI-enabled, it will take time to regulate the traffic at the back end. Considering the traffic flow at each junction, decisions will be taken to change the timings of traffic signals. The challenges encountered during the testing phase will be resolved shortly," he cameras equipped with AI tools are in place to monitor traffic flow and detect violations effectively. The cameras will provide real-time visuals, while the AI tools will analyse the captured footage to identify and track any traffic (crime & traffic) K Ravi Shankar said that it may take a few days to streamline the new traffic system, which was introduced on a trial basis at an additional three locations in the city. "We will optimise the system following a thorough assessment of the current conditions. We will study the timings of the traffic flow during peak hours and rectify the initial challenges," he added.
