Delhi Police head constable arrested for stealing Rs 50 lakh, 2 boxes of gold from Special Cell storehouse

A head constable, deployed with the Special Cell of the Delhi Police, was arrested Sunday for allegedly taking away Rs. 50 lakh and two boxes of gold from the high-security facility in the Lodhi Road area of the Capital. According to a Delhi police officer, the incident happened at about 4 am Saturday, when Khursheed allegedly entered the premises of the Special Cell's Malkhana or storehouse at Lodhi Road. He went inside the four-layer-security spot, and came out with two boxes of gold and a bag full of cash by 4.30 am, said the police officer. Khursheed, who was serving as one of the security personnel at the malkahana till about a month ago, was transferred to the East Delhi district. A senior Delhi Police Special Cell officer said he was aware of the ins and outs of the malkhana, and was also known by all the security personnel deployed there. 'The security personnel weren't aware that he was transferred. So, he managed to enter unchecked,' the senior police officer said. Khursheed was arrested in East Delhi in the late hours of Sunday after important case evidence was found missing from the malkhana. 'Investigation revealed that Khursheed entered the premises as the security personnel were under the impression that he was still posted here. He deceived them, and went out with the proceeds. The case property has been recovered, and Khursheed is being interrogated,' Pramod Singh Kushwaha, Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), said. The Special Cell's Lodhi Colony malkhana is under a four-layer security watch. The first is the deployment of the Nagaland Police force personnel, who watch over the Lodhi Colony premises. The second layer is the duty officer, who checks the details of everyone who enters the complex. The third are Light Machine Gun (LMG) carrying guards, and the fourth is another duty officer, who checks the entrants for the final time before they get inside the high-security area.
