Gujarat business leaders, family members killed in plane crash

THREE members of the Nanda family — founder of Cargo Motors Group, Pramukh Pravesh Nanda his wife Neha Pramukh Nanda and their younger son Prayash Pramukh Nanda, were onboard the London-bound Air India flight AI171 which crashed in Ahmedabad's Meghaninagar area Thursday minutes after taking off. The family of Pramukh Pravesh Nanda, a key figure in Gujarat's automobile and transport sectors and well known in the state's business circles, were heading to London to attend the convocation of their elder son Prayas, which was scheduled on June 16. 'So far, we have not received any information on them, whatever is coming is in bits and pieces. We are clueless like everyone else, praying and waiting for some concrete news on the passengers,' Vikram Gujral, director of Cargo Motors and maternal uncle of Pramukh's father Pravesh Nanda, told The Indian Express. After it was founded in 1959, the company has been leading in the automobile and transport sectors. Presently operational in Delhi, Gujarat, Punjab and Rajasthan, Cargo Motors runs over 70 sales outlets and 30 workshops. Subhashchandra Amin, the founder of Lubi Pumps was also on way to London on the ill-fated flight. Sources close to the company have confirmed that Subhashchandra was on the flight and was accompanied by a female member of the family, A Amin but did not give any details. Lubi Pumps, a prominent name, has now diversified into several industries including valves, solar, EV solutions and fire and electrical panels.
