India bond investors favour short-end after central banks policy surprise
MUMBAI, June 9 (Reuters) - Indian investors are opting for shorter-duration government bonds and swaps after the central bank cut rates by a surprise 50 basis points and lowered the cash reserve ratio (CRR) for lenders last Friday. The policy support will steepen the yield curve, with short-term rates falling and longer-term rates stabilising or rising, four investors told Reuters on Monday. "We continue to see front-end of the yield curve to be well supported," said A. Prasanna, head of research at ICICI Securities Primary Dealership. Prasanna, however, sees limited scope for a rally in longer-duration bonds as the CRR cut would limit the need for more debt purchases by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), a tool that would have otherwise lowered long-term yields. Expectations of a steeper curve are being reflected in markets as yields on up to three-year bonds have declined 4-5 bps since Friday, while the 10-year benchmark yield has risen nearly 18 bps from the low hit on that day. The outsized rate cut and surplus liquidity are also pushing shorter-tenor swap rates lower. The one-year OIS swap rate was around 5.45%, while the five-year rate rose to 5.70%, more-than-doubling the spread between the two. "With more liquidity and lower overnight rate fixings, there is still some room for receiving in one-year swap, but long-end should see some paying," said VRC Reddy, treasury head at Karur Vysya Bank. Reflecting the shift in sentiment, most investors now expect the 10-year bond yield to stabilise or rise. Citibank, which held a long position on the 10-year bond, said its conviction level on this trade has reduced due to limited scope for more rate cuts. Dhawal Dalal, president & CIO - fixed income - at Edelweiss MF, has turned "neutral" from "accommodative" on bonds and expects the 10-year yield in the 6.15%-6.25% band. "Eight hours, breakfast to lunch": R.S. Prasanna on his first meeting with Aamir Khan
Filmmaker R.S. Prasanna, who is gearing up for the release of his next film 'Sitaare Zameen Par,' recently opened up about his first-ever in-person meeting with Bollywood icon Aamir Khan . While the thought of interacting with a superstar made him nervous initially, the director revealed that all anxiety faded once the conversation began. What was meant to be a brief discussion stretched into an eight-hour exchange that spanned both breakfast and lunch. Aamir Khan was always the first choice for the lead Recalling the early days of the project in an interview with IANS, Prasanna shared that Aamir Khan's name instantly came to mind when thinking about the right actor for the lead role. 'Even before we met, we had some virtual interactions. I felt this was a story that would naturally appeal to Aamir sir,' he said. To his surprise, the actor's team had already reached out with interest, making the opportunity all the more serendipitous. A perfect match of story and superstar The director approached the collaboration as both a filmmaker and a fan. 'Everything I would want to see in an Aamir Khan film, humour, heart, sensitivity, it was all there in this script,' he explained. Prasanna believed the film had the perfect mix of emotion and entertainment, and was thrilled that Aamir not only agreed to act in it but also showed immense faith in him as a director. Aamir Khan's warmth turned admiration into confidence What stood out most to Prasanna was Aamir Khan's humility and warmth. 'He made me feel at ease within ten minutes,' he said, recalling how surreal it felt to connect with someone he had long admired. 'It was like talking to a friend, not a superstar. That one meeting gave me the confidence I needed to take on a film of this scale.' 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is slated to release on June 20, 2025. Aamir Khan reveals Sitaare Zameen Par almost starred Farhan Akhtar, Sivakarthikeyan
Ever since the trailer of Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par released, fans have been praising the actor's performance as Gulshan, the ill-mannered basketball coach to neurodivergent children. However, not many know that the Bollywood star had initially backed out of the film, and the makers had already signed Farhan Akhtar for the part. The plan was also to make the film in Tamil, with Sivakarthikeyan roped in for that version. But as they say, destiny has its own way, and Aamir eventually returned to the a group interview held in Mumbai on June 5, Khan opened up about working with RS Prasanna and recalled how the director had always envisioned him to play the lead role. While the superstar was fond of the story, he felt that the character was far removed from who he is. He even went on to suggest other actors who could portray the "ill-mannered, politically incorrect, rude, and arrogant man, who feels he is always right."The actor admitted working on the film after the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha, which left him distraught. "I was heartbroken because I loved the film (Laal Singh Chadha). I still love it and think it's really a beautiful one. But the bulk of the audience didn't like it, so it was very heartbreaking for me. I called Prasanna and told him that I was depressed and wouldn't be able to work. I'm an emotional person, so it would have been tough for me to work on a film. I was crying and just didn't even want to leave the house. So I asked him to take someone else, and because he understood, he didn't want to force me. He asked me to stay on as producer and finalised Farhan Akhtar and Sivakarthikeyan."advertisementKhan further shared that the plan was to make two films, in Hindi and Tamil. The dates were locked, and Prasanna, Divya (the writer), and the superstar had multiple meetings, as he had certain inputs to share.'In that one week, within the first half an hour of the first day, as she was reading the script and discussing points, I suddenly felt, 'why am I not doing this film? It's such a good script, have I gone mad to let it go?' But I couldn't tell them anything. After a week, when we locked everything, I finally confessed my feelings, but told Prasanna that I wasn't expecting any action. He said, 'This is your film, you should do it',' he the actor mentioned that the change was already done, the filmmaker referenced a Rajinikanth action scene where he forces a bullet back into the gun, hinting that things can always work said that Prasanna then shared, 'You cannot deny me as a director because you were my first choice. For two years, I have been with you, so please don't do this'.'The 'Andaaz Apna Apna' actor added, 'I was in a dilemma because Farhan was also very excited and wanted to play it differently. While I tried to decline, they put so much emotional pressure on me that I finally spoke to them. I was honest with Farhan and Sivakarthikeyan, and they agreed. Farhan, of course, was disappointed. He told me, 'I really love the role, but you should do it because you were the first choice.' He was very sweet and supportive. Similarly, Sivakarthikeyan also told me, 'Why are you saying sorry? You do the film, it's your film.' They were both very sweet and supportive. So then, I finally came back to the film.'Sitaare Zameen Par will hit cinema halls on June Watch

Aamir Khan says he backed out of Sitaare Zameen Par; roped in Farhan Akhtar, Sivakarthikeyan for Hindi, Tamil versions
Bollywood star Aamir Khan is all set to make a comeback to the big screen after the failure of Laal Singh Chaddha, with Sitaare Zameen Par. During the Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Summit & Awards 2025, Aamir revealed that he had initially refused to star in the film as he was depressed, and that Farhan Akhtar and Sivakarthikeyan were going to lead the Hindi and Tamil versions, respectively. However, he had a change of heart at the last minute. (Also Read: Aamir Khan is a legend who acts like a newcomer when newcomers act like legends: Sitaare Zameen Par director RS Prasanna) Aamir recalled how he and R. S. Prasanna had been trying to make Sitaare Zameen Par before Covid. However, when the pandemic struck, Aamir decided to take a break from films and spend time with his family. He informed the director accordingly. Later, when his children confessed that they wanted him to continue making films, he went ahead with Laal Singh Chaddha. However, the film's failure at the box office left Aamir heartbroken, and he wanted to walk away from Sitaare Zameen Par. He recalled, 'I told Prasanna that I was depressed and hence needed a break. Prasanna had a heart attack (laughs) on hearing that. He was very understanding. He said, 'I understand what you're going through and that emotionally, you don't feel like doing the film. But I request you to produce it instead.' I agreed. At that time, we had decided to make two versions – one in Hindi with Farhan Akhtar, while Sivakarthikeyan was going to do the Tamil version. They loved the script, and the dates were even worked out' Aamir continued, 'Before starting prep, I always sit with the writer and director for a week or two to go through the script in detail. On the first day of reading the script, within half an hour, I thought, 'Why am I not doing this film?' For seven days, I had that feeling ten times a day. Then, on the seventh day, mere se raha nahin gaya (I couldn't hold back). I told the writer, Divya, and Prasanna that I loved the script. I also said, 'Now it's too late. The casting has already been done. The bullet has been fired from the gun.' Prasanna told me, 'I am from Chennai. We take the bullet that's been fired and put it back in the gun!'' Aamir Khan shared that the filmmaker had expressed his unwavering support, telling him that he had always been the original choice for the role and, having stood by him for four years, he couldn't turn him down now that Aamir was ready to commit to the project. He revealed that he then called Farhan and Sivakarthikeyan and apologised to them. While they were disappointed, they also understood Aamir's point of view. The sports comedy-drama is a spiritual sequel to the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. It also stars Genelia Deshmukh, along with ten debutant actors in key roles. The film is a remake of the Spanish film Champions. It follows the story of a basketball coach who trains a team of differently-abled children as a punishment. The film is set to release in theatres on June 20.
