A'bad mayor orders swift completion of road resurfacing work

Ahmedabad: At a pre-monsoon action plan review meeting held on Monday, mayor Pratibha Jain directed Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation officials to prevent waterlogging and ensure citizens face no difficulties during monsoon. The city has identified 147 waterlogging-prone spots, with 61 in the western part and 86 in the eastern part of the city. Officials were instructed to expedite various preventive measures, including barricading breakdowns, completing road resurfacing and accelerating work on the western and eastern trunk lines. The administration has approved projects at 40 spots to address waterlogging issues, while 107 locations across the city remain susceptible to water accumulation. Arrangements were also made for citizens to lodge complaints through social media platforms. Orders were issued to ensure quick water drainage using Varun pumps during waterlogging. According to the AMC officials, 1,761 complaints were received during the monsoon last year, of which 1,181 were regarding waterlogging spots. There will be seven zonal control rooms. Advanced rain gauges have been installed at 27 locations and these will provide rainfall updates every 15 minutes. Heavy-capacity pumps have also been installed at 26 underpasses for efficient rainwater drainage. "The first round of cleaning 68,443 catch pits for rainwater drainage is complete, with the second and third rounds in progress. trimming of 1,000 trees is underway," Parikh said.
