Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch on Wednesday has arrested a chain snatcher and recovered gold chains worth Rs 5 lakh. The arrested suspect, Prem Nanawat (20) of Maval, was involved in nine recent chain snatching cases and a vehicle theft in Pimpri Chinchwad and the district. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now A crime branch team led by senior inspector Vijay Dhamal took Nanawat into custody on Wednesday, April 23, after examining CCTV footage. A team from Mahalunge MIDC police detained his two minor accomplices on April 11 and had detected four chain snatching cases. The suspect Nanawat was on the run since then. The police said Nanawat and his two accomplices used to snatch gold chains during night hours. They targeted women on a walk after dinner or walking home from markets carrying bags in their hands. They used a stolen motorcycle to commit the crimes. "During interrogation, Nanawat admitted his involvement in eight chain snatchings in Pimpri Chinchwad and one in Lonavla. They stole the motorcycle from the Chakan. We have handed Nanawat over to the Chikhali police for further investigation," Dhamal said.
