Scott Bain to sign for Falkirk after early Celtic departure
Former Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain has agreed to sign for Falkirk, STV Sport understands. The 33-year-old has agreed terms on a one-year contract with the newly-promoted side as manager John McGlynn looks to strengthen his squad for their Premeirship return. Bain is a free agent after agreeing an early exit from Celtic and now looks likely to have regular first-team football after a long spell as a reserve at the champions. The goalkeeper started his career at Aberdeen and then impressed at Alloa before moving to Dundee in 2014. His performances at Dundee caught the eye of Celtic, who initially signed him on a half-season loan deal as cover in 2018. Bain went on to spend another seven seasons as a Celtic player, though he only made 78 first-team appearances across his time in Glasgow, with Craig Gordon, Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichel among the goalkeepers who were ahead of him in the pecking order. The veteran striker's late winner led to a crazy pitch invasion at Somerset Park with hundreds of fans spilling onto the turf to celebrate with their heroes. But the atmosphere was just as fiery off the pitch as it was on it as punters clashed in residential streets less than half an hour before the match even got underway. A small number of supporters from both sides went head-to-head on George Street and cops were forced to step in. Footage shows the moment they faced off on the residential street but it's unclear what sparked the conflict. Punters were heard yelling at each other from across the street and they eventually dispersed when a number of police officers stepped in to break up the commotion. There was a heavy police presence on scene with loud sirens heard throughout the video. Police Scotland confirmed the incidents took place at around 7.25pm - 20 minutes before kick-off at Somerset Park. A statement also confirmed that one cop suffered injuries during the chaos but no arrests have been made as things stand. Investigations are, however, still ongoing. BRIAN GRAHAM Partick Thistle hero on his worst day in football & bust-up with Neil Lennon Chief inspector Emma Dodds branded the incidents as "completely unacceptable".
