Primetime 585 Shining Star: AJ Morgan
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — For Friday's Primetime 585 Shining Star Spotlight — where we introduce you to some student athletes who are brightening up our community — we're highlighting AJ Morgan! AJ is a sophomore track star at Webster Schroeder High School. In her second season of outdoor varsity track, she decided to take on the pentathlon. She made first team all-county in Pentathlon and second team all-county in hurdles and high jump. AJ was the Section Five Class-A and Monroe County Public School Athletic Conference pentathlon champion. She was also the pentathlon champion in the His and Hers Invite where she was named MVP. She went on to break Webster's Girls Pentathlon record at the State Qualifier meet. Now she's headed to states next weekend. On top of all that, she won the Devin Snyder Outstanding Female Athlete Award. A big congratulations to AJ, from all of us here at News 8 — and thank you for brightening up our community! Primetime 585 Shining Star: Ellie Bottiglier
IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WROC) — News 8's Primetime 585 Shining Star Spotlight highlights students who impact their school and community through sports. On Wednesday, we celebrate Irondequoit High School sophomore Ellie Bottiglier. Bottiliger is a 4.0 student athlete who has received High Honor Roll every quarter since beginning high school. She plays both varsity basketball and lacrosse and has been a player on each team since eighth grade. As the second oldest of five children, Bottiglier is joined by two of her siblings on the lacrosse team. On Tuesday's game against Spencerport, Bottiglier celebrated a career high score of 8 goals with a 14-8 win for Senior Night. She is the team leader in Draw Controls with 54, Ground Balls with 29, and Caused Turnovers with 19, and follows second in goals with 20 and 28 points for the season. Her athletic accomplishments include winning the 2024-2025 Basketball team's Iron Eagle Award for Heart, Hustle, and Grit and participating on the 2024 second team All-Monroe County for lacrosse. Academically, she's been honored with the 2024-2025 Social Studies Peak Award and is recognized for her participation in extracurricular activities such as Peer Leadership Club, Morgan's Message Club, which promotes student-athlete mental health, and the DECA Club for business. Bottiglier plans to continue playing lacrosse in college after completing high school. News 8 and Primetime 585 would like to congratulate Ellie on her accomplishments and continued success!
