Arizona Cardinals add another defensive player, draft Oregon EDGE Jordan Burch in Round 3

Arizona Cardinals add another defensive player, draft Oregon EDGE Jordan Burch in Round 3 The Cardinals go with a defensive player again in the third round, adding a pass rusher. The Arizona Cardinals, after addressing their defense with their first two selections in the 2025 NFL draft, did it again in the third round. They selected Oregon EDGE Jordan Burch in the third round using the 78th overall pick. It appeared that their top target probably got sniped. The Carolina Panthers traded up to the 77th pick and landed Ole Miss EDGE Princely Umanmielen. Burch, though, has promise. He is 6-foot-4 and 279 pounds, a large edge rusher. In 2024, he had 8.5 sacks and 11 tackles in 10 games for loss for Oregon. He also tipped six passes. He missed some time with an ankle injury. He played five seasons in college, playing his first three years for South Carolina in the SEC. He transferred to Oregon in 2023. Unless the Cardinals trade back into the third round, their Day 2 is over. They have three selections for Day 3 on Saturday. Arizona Cardinals have met multiple times with Ole Miss EDGE Princely Umanmielen

Arizona Cardinals have met multiple times with Ole Miss EDGE Princely Umanmielen The Cardinals have had meetings with many of the top pass-rushing prospects in the draft class. They have had multiple with one out of Ole Miss. In the process leading up to the 2025 NFL draft, the Arizona Cardinals have been very active getting to know some of the top edge rushers. We know they have had or will have official top-30 meetings with such players as Shemar Stewart, Jalon Walker, James Pearce Jr. and Mykel Williams. One pass-rushing prospect has had multiple meetings with the Cardinals. Ole Miss pass rusher Princely Umanmielen told Justin Melo of The Draft Network that he had a formal interview at the NFL combine las month and also visited Arizona. There is a lot to like about Umanmielen. He increased his production each year, starting first at Florida and then last season for Mississippi. In 2023, his fourth year in Florida, he had seven sacks and 12 tackles for loss. Then, in 2024 for Ole Miss, he had 10.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss. He has the physical traits as well, measuring 6-foot-4 and 244 pounds with long 33 7/8-inch arms. He ran the 40 at the combine in 4.72 seconds, had a 7.33-second three-cone and posted a 38-inch vertical leap and 126-inch broad jump. He believes he is a complete player. "A lot of people sleep on me as a run defender," he said. "I think I can still get better in the run game though, but I've never been a liability in the run." He also comes in with the belief that he will produce at the next level. "I'm consistent throughout all four quarters, but I always show up in the critical moments," he said. "I truly believe I'm going to come in and be a game-changer." Most mock drafts have Umanmielen going in the second round. Will he be available for the Cardinals when they select at No. 47 overall? We will have to wait and see. Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast. Packers among teams showing most interest in Ole Miss edge rusher Princely Umanmielen

Packers among teams showing most interest in Ole Miss edge rusher Princely Umanmielen The Green Bay Packers are among the teams that shown the "most interest" in Ole Miss edge rusher Princely Umanmielen ahead of the 2025 NFL draft, according to Jordan Reid of ESPN. Reid also mentioned the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the other most interested teams, per Umanmielen. Umanmielen (6-4, 244) played his first four seasons at Florida before transferring to Ole Miss in 2024. He was an All-SEC pick for Florida in 2023 after producing 7.0 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss across 12 games and an All-SEC pick for Ole Miss in 2024 after creating 10.5 sacks, 13.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble over 12 games. Lance Zierlein's pro comparison for Umanmielen is Whitney Mercilus, who spent time with the Packers during the 2021 season. Umanmielen is undersized for the Packers at under 250 pounds, and Zierlein labeled him more of a "finesse" edge rusher, but his quickness and ability to create consistent disruption could tempt the pass-rush needy Packers. Zierlein's scouting report: "Finesse edge defender with traits, athleticism and upside to have his sack production translate to the NFL. Umanmielen is a serious ground-gainer with burst, stride and bend to create shallow edges leading directly into the quarterback's drop space. He's not instinctive and takes predictable pathways to the pocket, but he's simply hard to keep out of the pocket due to his attributes. He lacks play strength and aggression as a run defender. He will have trouble setting edges and might not be an early down option early in his career. Umanmielen is an ascending stand-up edge rusher who might be just scratching the surface of his already threatening rush talent." Umanmielen had a pass-rush win rate of 22.8 percent in 2024, per PFF. He created 55 pressures, including 27 combined sacks and hits, across only 288 pass-rushing snaps. At the NFL Scouting Combine, Umanmielen ran the 40-yard dash in 4.72 seconds, hit 38" in the vertical leap and covered 10-6 in the broad jump but managed only average times in the agilities, an important metric for the Packers for edge rushers. The consensus big board currently has Umanmielen as the No. 58 overall player, so he could be a possibility for the Packers at No. 54 overall in the second round. The big question: Would the Packers spend premium draft capital on an undersized edge rusher who might end up being a designated pass-rusher?
