Sosie on trial for Eclipse challenge at ParisLongchamp

The Andre Fabre-trained four-year-old was sent off favourite for last season's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on the back of victories in the Grand Prix de Paris and the Prix Niel. He finished fourth to Bluestocking in the autumn highlight, but returned first time out this season looking a bit sharper. Back down in trip over an extended 10 and a half furlongs for the Prix Ganay, he beat race-fit rivals and a Sandown excursion is now on the minds of connections, who supplemented Sosie for this race in order to test his credentials. 'We have supplemented because his owners Wertheimer and Frere want to see if he can run in the Eclipse,' said Fabre. 'They want to see if he can show enough speed so he can run at Sandown and be a runner there. 'He's done most of his racing over a mile and a half, but he won the Prix Ganay first time out over a little bit shorter, so that gives us hope he may have the speed for this distance. 'Obviously a mile and a half is perfect for him, but he has some class so we'll find out. 'Thinking of him being a stallion later, it is important to prove himself at this distance, too.' Sosie is one of seven contenders for the Group One prize, with Fabre also running Alcantor. John and Thady Gosden field recent Ascot winner Sardinian Warrior, while Roger Varian sends Elmalka, last year's 1000 Guineas winner. Caramelito, Horizon Dore and Dare To Dream complete the line up.
