Soumillon steps in for Detain ride at Chantilly
'The plan is to run both at the moment and both came out of their last races well,' said Thady Gosden. Detain will be ridden by Christophe Soumillon (Adam Davy/PA) 'Detain ran in the Poulains, he travelled back great from that, and Bowmark from York. 'Detain has been in good order, that was his first foreign trip but he took the experience very well. That was into Longchamp and this will be into Chantilly. 'He ran a nice race there, he was doing all his best work late on and shaped as if the step up to 10 furlongs would suit.' Regarding the booking of Soumillon, Gosden added: 'Christophe Soumillon is who he is. He's a world-class jockey and he was available for the ride, so after discussions he kindly agreed to ride him. Bowmark impressed at York (Mike Egerton/PA) 'Tom Marquand will ride Bowmark with William Buick riding for Godolphin. 'I wouldn't know which one I'd want to ride, I'd probably wait for the draw before I answered! 'It's Bowmark's first time travelling abroad so he'll need to travel well whereas Detain has the experience of that, but hopefully they both continue to improve as the season goes on. Hopefully they are both impressive three-year-olds. 'It looks like being a big field and Chantilly has its quirks. The bigger the field, the more trouble we are likely to run into. Circumstantially a lot will have to go right and the draw is a major factor in that. Time will tell.' Richard Hannon's King Of Cities was supplemented for the Classic at a cost of €72,000 on Wednesday. ✅ Almeric fends off King Of Cities in the £55,000 Listed @bet365 Feilden Stakes at HQ — Racing TV (@RacingTV) April 15, 2025 Speaking at Windsor on Monday, Hannon told Sky Sports Racing: 'I always thought he was an extremely good horse. He's by the best stallion in the world (Dubawi) and he has an extremely good pedigree. 'He doesn't have anything to prove to me, it's a big step up to go to the French Derby but he's capable of anything.' Andre Fabre has also supplemented the once-raced Sinileo, for the same connections who supplemented subsequent winner Sosie for the Prix d'Ispahan.

Sardinian Warrior might have earned Ascot ticket
Sardinian Warrior produced a career-best effort when chasing home Andre Fabre's Sosie in the Prix d'Ispahan and Royal Ascot may now beckon. John and Thady Gosden's four-year-old was only beaten a length by the top-class winner, who is now heading for the Coral-Eclipse. Connections believe the nine-furlong trip stretched his stamina and a return to a mile is in store, potentially in the Queen Anne. 'It was a good move to go there. What we learned in doing that was a mile is definitely his trip,' said owner Marc Chan's racing manager, Jamie McCalmont. 'The winner is a top-class horse and to be beaten only a length by a horse of that class when we probably ran out of gas, I think it was a lot better run that it looks. 'Normally I have a bit of a meltdown after finishing second as I often think we've been unlucky, but on this occasion we were unlucky when Andre Fabre supplemented the winner on Thursday – that's when it got unlucky! 'He's a cool horse, he's got a great mind and he's a horse to like. 'We'll see how he comes out of the race, the Queen Anne is not set in stone at this point but it is very tempting.'

Sosie, last in, first out in Group 1 Prix d'Ispahan
PARIS ParisLongchamp racecourse played host on May 25 to a superb card featuring two Group 1 races, the €250,000 (S$365,000) Prix d'Ispahan (1,850m) and the €400,000 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier (3,100m), as well as a Group 3 event, the 150,000 Prix du Palais-Royal (1,400m). The Prix d'Ispahan was claimed by a colt who is already emerging as one of the leading contenders for the upcoming Group 1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2,400m), the world championship for thoroughbreds, set to take place at ParisLongchamp later this year on Oct 5. Already the winner of the Group 1 Prix Ganay (1,600m) just a month ago, Sosie ($8) handled the Prix d'Ispahan with aplomb by delivering a highly promising performance. With Maxime Guyon in the saddle, the Sea The Stars four-year-old, who was also supplemented late into the race, finished ahead of British raider Sardinian Warrior (Christophe Soumillon). Next on his agenda is the Group 1 Eclipse Stakes (2,000m), at Sandown in England on July 5. Thereafter, the focus will shift to preparing for the Arc. "There was a slight concern if Sosie would have enough turn of foot for a race over 1,850 metres, which is a different test compared to 2,400 metres," said Pierre-Yves Bureau, representative of Wertheimer & Frere, the owner and breeder of the champion. "Maxime made sure he was always well-positioned in the race. He was very impressive, and I believe he's simply very good. "He's now reached full physical maturity. He looked absolutely magnificent. "He comes from a staying family, but his dam was more of a miler." Legendary trainer Andre Fabre said Sosie's late entry into the Prix d'Ispahan was to get a springboard towards the Eclipse. "The Wertheimer brothers are keen to run him in the Eclipse. We had to test him over a shorter distance," said Fabre. "I was delighted to see a horse who can run over a mile and a half and over to have enough speed to beat nice horses today." Guyon was equally delighted with Sosie's ability to rise to the occasion over a trip which is not necessarily his strongest suit. "It's fantastic. He was a little bit lazy over this distance, but he was very strong at the finish. "I'm really happy because he proved he can go quick and win over both 1,850m and 2,400m. "He's a real Group 1 horse and a real champion." The Prix Vicomtesse Vigier, which was upgraded to Group 1 status in 2025, went to a newcomer at this elite level: Candelari ($16), racing in the colours of the Aga Khan Studs and trained by Francis-Henri Graffard. With the operation's first jockey, Mickael Barzalona, serving a suspension, it was Clement Lecoeuvre who successfully stood in for the Frankel four-year-old. This marks the jockey's first Group 1 win in France, having previously enjoyed success at this level in Germany. "It's crazy for me, riding a horse like this. This horse is getting more and more experience with racing," said Lecoeuvre. "I travelled very well behind the pace. After the corner, when the other jockeys start to attack the lead, a gap appeared in front of me, and he sprinted very well. "It's my first Group race win, let alone first Group 1 win. It's magical, hopefully it's not the last." Finally, Topgear, a son of Wootton Bassett, made a winning return to action in the Group 3 Prix du Palais-Royal for trainer Christopher Head, jockey Stephane Pasquier and owner Hisaaki Saito. The six-year-old entire is now set to be seen again during the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting. FRANCE GALOP

Sosie on trial for Eclipse challenge at ParisLongchamp
Sosie will test his Coral-Eclipse hopes when he drops back to just short of 10 furlongs in Sunday's Prix d'Ispahan at ParisLongchamp. The Andre Fabre-trained four-year-old was sent off favourite for last season's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on the back of victories in the Grand Prix de Paris and the Prix Niel. He finished fourth to Bluestocking in the autumn highlight, but returned first time out this season looking a bit sharper. Back down in trip over an extended 10 and a half furlongs for the Prix Ganay, he beat race-fit rivals and a Sandown excursion is now on the minds of connections, who supplemented Sosie for this race in order to test his credentials. 'We have supplemented because his owners Wertheimer and Frere want to see if he can run in the Eclipse,' said Fabre. 'They want to see if he can show enough speed so he can run at Sandown and be a runner there. 'He's done most of his racing over a mile and a half, but he won the Prix Ganay first time out over a little bit shorter, so that gives us hope he may have the speed for this distance. 'Obviously a mile and a half is perfect for him, but he has some class so we'll find out. 'Thinking of him being a stallion later, it is important to prove himself at this distance, too.' Sosie is one of seven contenders for the Group One prize, with Fabre also running Alcantor. John and Thady Gosden field recent Ascot winner Sardinian Warrior, while Roger Varian sends Elmalka, last year's 1000 Guineas winner. Caramelito, Horizon Dore and Dare To Dream complete the line up.

Newbury or Paris next on the agenda for Tamfana
The daughter of Soldier Hollow made her seasonal reappearance in the bet365 Mile last month, finishing only a length and three-quarters behind Roger Teal's Dancing Gemini in second at Sandown. Menuisier revealed she has come out of the race in rude health and will make a return to Group One action, although a destination of Newbury or ParisLongchamp has not yet been finalised. Dancing Gemini justifies favouritism, landing a confident victory in the Group 2 @bet365 Mile for Rossa Ryan and Roger Teal @RogerTealRacing — Sandown Park (@Sandownpark) April 25, 2025 'She's grand, she's come out of the race really well and she's ready to go again,' the Frenchman said. 'It went to plan, she was always going to need the run. So she ran the race and just got tired at the end, which was always going to happen, and came out of the race really great. 'She'll go for the Lockinge next week or the Prix d'Ispahan, I'm not sure as of yet. No decision has been made yet. 'We will consider everything between a mile and 10 furlongs and see where she wants to go.' Sunway produced a promising display when third on his return to action in the Group Three John Porter at Newbury last month. He was only two lengths behind the Andrew Balding-trained winner Divina Grace, with Tom Clover's Tabletalk splitting the pair, and Menuisier is expecting a busy campaign for the four-year-old. 'Yeah, I'm happy and he will try to do a bit better in the Aston Park here next week at Newbury,' the Pulborough-based handler added. 'We will take each run as it comes and it might be too close to the Coronation Cup. Frankly, he will be entered in all those big races, he's entered in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud as well. 'All options will be open, but we just want to take it step by step and take it from there.' Menuisier admitted the ground was too fast for potential Betfred Oaks contender Janey Mackers when she finished down the field in the Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket last weekend. Epsom or the French Oaks remain distinct possibilities for the three-year-old daughter of New Bay, but the Listed Height of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood looks set to be her next assignment. 'She's fine. The ground was too quick, but we looked after her on the way home,' Menuisier said. 'You can draw a line, you can do what you like. She needed the race, the ground was too quick and we looked after her. Yeah, definitely (she needs softer ground), then take it from there. 'I don't know really (whether the Oaks is still an option), it's still a fair way off. 'I think Goodwood next, if possible, for the Height of Fashion – and then after that, all the possibilities are open.'
